The passenger door of my 1989 328 GTS seems to slightly be sagging. There has been no damage due to impact/accident, just panel fit is slightly less than ideal on closing. Seems to be a slight bit of play up and down with the door when open. What can be done to adjust and refit closing so panel fit is spot on? Could replacements of certain parts do the job? Is this a common problem, especially with GTS vs. GTB?

You have to determine whether the hinge is loose on its mounts or if the hinge pin is worn, requiring replacement.

from experience I would say the pin is worn, requiring replacement

I had the same thing in the passenger door of my 1977 308. All it took to correct it was to loosen off the 4 allen bolts that hold the door lock plate in position (the one attached to the body) and make a minor adjustment to the plate's position. I marked the original position with masking tape and found that I only had to angle the bottom part inwards, probably less than 1 mm. Yours will be different obviously.

I also noted that each of these plates is supposed to have two spacers between the car's body and the plate. One of them was missing on the passenger side. I'll make a new one, but as a temporary fix I used washers to "pad it out".

The difference in panel fit was amazing -- i.e., it all fits perfecty now.

If you can't follow my words, let me know and I'll try sending you a photo so you can see what I mean.

I have the same problem with my 308. Does the 78 have removable/replaceable hinges? Should I check that first before doing what Jonesdds proposed?

The pin material is made of a softer steel then the hinges. That way they wear instead of the hinges. Replace both pins, grease them up and enjoy happy doors again.

I meant to say pins instead of hinges....thanks for that. I hope my local dealer still has pins for my car.

Definetly seems to be the hinge pins being worn. What is the part number and good source? Installation, what are the steps taken to replace this part? What is the best lubrication to use once installed?

I need to bring this back to life since I've noticed that my drivers side door is difficult to close. The door closes, however it just "catches" the latch then I have to re-open it and close it harder. I looked at the catch mechanism and it seems fine. Searching further I noticed that my door pouch fits right up against the carpet on door sill area. (the passenger door is up away from the carpet/sill) I'm thinking that the pouch hits against the carpet preventing the door from closing easily.
I removed the door panel and noticed there was no adjustment for the pouch (it is rivited in place and I didn't want to drill it out & replace..)
Also the door aligns with the body..

So could this problem be caused by hinge pins, or did Ferrari just install my drivers door pouch too low?

Any suggestions on "how to" ..for the R&R of the door pins/sources also?

Never heard of that being the cause. I thought my problem was a sagging problem and the hinge being worn seemed like the problem. I purchased the hinge pins and plan to replace as I think they are part of the problem still. But by messing with the strike plate position, I improved the door shutting and panel fit almost to perfection. Make markings of current position and then loosen the allen bolts and try to move the striker to a position where the door closes more easily. I also lubed up that area and the hinges and got rid of the squeaks and groans in the process. My guess is you'll correct the problem with that adjustment, or maybe by changing the hinges. Does the rest of your door panel seem properly positioned.

    Thanks Jeff,

Yes, the entire door panel fits nicely, the seams, the way it matches up to the rest of the body (oil cooler intake) etc...
it just that the drivers door pocket is at the same level as the carpet/threshold/rocker panel...what ever you want to call it...that's what led me to believe that the pocket may have been impropely mounted, but I also thought that maybe it's because the door is sagging.
When I compare the drivers side door pocket to the passenger side door pocket there is a big difference in terms of clearance between the bottom of both. Clearly there is a gap on the passenger side but the drivers side is right up snug to the carpet..

Similar question, but upon opening and closing the drivers side door on my 1986 328 GTS makes two loud clicks. I have tried to lube it but still is loud.
