So as many of you know my wonderful 400i has had one lingering issue- the popular "Fuel Smell In The Trunk".

I finally decided to just fix this damned thing right and stop fooling around.

First we replaced EVERY SINGLE FUEL LINE in the trunk with brand new stuff- this helped a little bit, but my nose told me one of the tank had some sort of a slight leak- rather than make all of my employees nauseous (My garage for the Ferraris is connected to my business) I took the car to Boston Sports Car- where we decided to pull both tanks and send them off for professional resealing. Everybody should have a race shop near them that can work on aluminum tanks- We emptied them- cleaned them, welded the one tank that we felt had just the tiniest of leaks- then sealed the tanks inside with Caswell Epoxy plating compound- then sealed the outside with 3M undercoating spray- tanks are now black, not tan- but the miracle of miracles is there is ZERO fuel smell now- I mean none- Can't say I've ever put my nose in one of these without that little whiff of Petrol- so I'm pretty pleased. Maybe now my friends and family will ride in the car with me.

The car was away for 3 weeks- and I've been rotating the 41 with the 355 and my Porsche Cab for that period- so it was great to get the 5-speed back... forgot how much I liked this car- also forgot how LOUD those TRXs are at 90 MPH- Good Lord what a difference between TRX and modern rubber! Interesting driving the 412 back to back with the 5 speed 400i- 412 is noticeably quicker at speed- from 70-90 MPH the auto car just rockets past traffic while dropping the 5 speed down in gears to get going it just does not seem as rapid. But of course with the 5 speed you can burn rubber !
