    Deal or No Deal:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking at a Paramount Center Console fisherman. It looks pretty sleek, I have sea trialed it, but am unfamiliar with the Paramount name. The boat is clean, has a kick ass GPS, etc.

1995 PARAMOUNT center consul 26' 1995 26' Paramount with a 2000 250 Merc EFI. This boat was redone in 2001 with a new t-top, electronics and consul. It has a color garmin GPS, depth finder and stereo.

Apparently they're made in Lauderdale. It has a 2000 Mercury 250 EFI...

21K asking price, anyone care to give feedback...the boat is located and for sale by a boat dealer in destin, fl.

I had 2 Paramount 21 footers and they were great boats. I'm not sure how well that 26 footer will perform on a single engine, most had twins. The boats are well built and the factory in Dania is happy to do repairs and upgrades. Take a sea trial and see how easily she comes up on the single motor. Maybe the hull is light enough. One trouble spot was stress cracks on the chines, so be sure to get a good look at the underside. That said I have never ridden in a 26 as I don't think they made too many of them.

i was pretty suprised, but the boat hopped out of the water pretty nicely for a single 250 single motor.

i really need a good dockside mechanice to pull the boat out and do a PPI in the Miami area (that I can trust) do you have any? Thanks!

That picture looks like the Gables waterway across from Cocoplum. To do a proper PPI you would need to involve a Merc dealer as I know the older Optimax motors had some teething problems. The bad ones are easy to spot, cause they barely run . Does the boat have a trailer? $21k doesn't sound like a bad price at all. If you need we can put the boat up on the davits at my house and get a good look at the bottom. The other inspections should be easy. My captain can take a cursory look at the motor and the systems should be quick to go through.

The 21's were great but I have heard mixed reviews on the 26, with a single its underpowered (if you want to go fast). But at that price, I don't think you can beat it.

we seatrialed it and it actualy popped out of the water pretty nice. it's not super fast, but fast enough i guess for the beer boating i like to do.

it's got some nice lines, right? it's growing on me...

    so, good deal?

If you like it thats all that matters, but a single 250 on a 26' boat is borderline underpowered. Once you add the fuel, ice and drinks plus your buddies, you will wish you had the second motor.

i like it, but i guess the question is "is it a good deal, even with one 250?"

Looks like a good Bay boat, but once the wind kicks up and your 20 miles offshore you would wish you had that other motor.

If the boat is a really good deal, buy it and spend the bucks on purchasing and installing a matching motor.

Its an OK deal those Merc 250s love gas, but if the boat and motor have been kept up then yes buy it. It will be the perfect boat for the Columbus Day Regatta but only if you invite me and the wife :)

    Happy Boating

went down to miami and met up with adam aka Tiara from F-Chat, he was a big time help, again, thakns, adam for your time and expertise.

i think the boat may be underpowered, and i would be self consious with such a little motor on a 26'...:(

back to the boattrader.com world for me...

Don't be mislead, it is not the size of your outboard but the trim of your thrust and the direction you point your drive that matters. That's the plane truth.

i grabbed her throttle, slammed it down and she popped me out of the moist, warm water relatively nicely.

BUT, her top speed, once she got on top of it, was somewhat limited. i did her up to 26 knots, then she was spent. she and i oozed oil into her manifolds.

it was fun while it lasted, but didn't push me over the edge to buy her.
