Seems this is a common issue where the gloss black paint starts coming off above the windows. Thought is might all flake off eventually leaving just the matt black paint underneath which I think looks pretty good in itself. No luck though as only half has eventually come off and the rest is refusing to budge without applying any paint stripper.

I know its a pretty east job to sand back and repaint but wondered if anyone has gone for any other option. Was thinking of taking it back to bear metal and polishing it to a shine finish. Anyone ever done this? Also when using paint stripper, does just the gloss black paint come off or does the matt stuff (primer i suppose) come off too?

Wow -- paint stripper -- yikes. I would be very careful with that because in the wrong places it could lead to a costly paint job. Also not sure how the stripper will react with the window rubber.

My car is grigio alloy and I have aftermarket wheels with bare polished aluminum lips so it might match well. Unsure though.

English, I think others have done it before but yeah its a case of at your own risk! Plenty of newspaper and masking tape and then carefully paint on the stripper.
