I had the great opportunity to meet and crew for the one and only Mr. FLATOUTRACING aka Jon Kofod during the 12 hrs at Summit Point. Yes the team of Ian Carpenter/Matt Foley/Jon Kofod/Andrew Zimmerman as drivers won... duh what did you think there was going to be any other position but numero uno? If you've seen his Ferrari days or even Honda Challenge videos and you go wow he is fast, well let me tell ya when you see him on track you realize that he makes those videos look slow.

JPK was running a car built for a larger driver that he had never driven and was turning faster laps. He was driving at the best times during Friday night practice when he'd never run at night before. Believe me that is no easy feat considering at Summit Point you don't have any other lights illuminating the track. Of course during race day he set the fastest lap in ITA which the team was running with the former Nonnamaker Integra.

Again Jon great meeting you and I thank you for allowing me to be part of the team. Hope to see ya race/crew for you again sometime soon.

Picture gallery coming shortly... gotta upload them all.

Jon has been helping me at track events setting up my GT3 Cup car for the past year. He's one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. In most cases I would be spending at least $1000 a day to have someone like David Murry or a similar professional coach me. Jon does it for free because he's that kind of person.

I watched about three hours of the race and Jon and his team were amazing to watch on the track. Not a weak driver in the entire line up.

I know Jon has been trying for the past year to put sponsorship together to race in the Rolex 24. If anyone is looking for a world class driver contact him. You will not regret it.

    Congrats Jon !

Thanks guys ! Sean thanks for all the hard work keeping all the stats and lap times. It was a real team effort. Most teams are happy to just finish the race, let alone win, and many teams try for years to win it (the team we beat has been the bridesmaid 4 years running).

It's a testament to our preperation that our car ran for 12 hours without a single glitch. All we changed was tires and brakes at the 6 hour mark.

I now understand when the announcers for the 12 Hour at Sebring or at the 24 Hour races comment that it's a "sprint" race not an endurance race.

We ran 10/10th's for 12 hours and won it on our first attempt.

This really has me salivating for the Rolex in a year or two.

    Regards,

    Jon P. Kofod

    Jon,

Great job! Congrats! I'm sorry I couldn't make it down. Maybe next time. I know how to use a torque wrench if you need more pit crew :).

I got dibs on data. ;)

It was an awesome race, great battle between the two Tegs. Some strange incidents of cars hitting deer and a nasty wreck. All in all it was an unforgettable weekend. In a few years I hope to be driving one of those wicked cars.

Nice photos of the race Sean, I was one of the Team drivers on the 09 SSM car that took the hit on the front straight. The driver is here today, thanks in no small part to the Mitch Piper Motorsports Cage and he was using my HANS @ the time. Do you think that you could email me a few full of the photos that you posted? We are running an SRF @ the VIR 13 hour if you have not gotten enough of the long races. I am sorry I did not meet you there Jon, Congratulation on the class win.

    All the best,

    Chris

    Chris,

I was relieved to hear everyone was ok from the wreck in T10. I was sleeping in the trailer after my 3 hour stint in the car when I noticed there were no cars running. I radioed the pits and was told two Miatas were totalled.

I've seen some very bad wrecks in SM and SSM and am amazed at how the cars seem to hold up.

Who do you race SRF's for? I raced SRF's with Hagerman Racing for 2 1/2 season regionally and nationally. SRF's were what I cut my teeth on racing (that and Skip Barber).

Mitch Piper builds the best cages in the business. Go to any MARRS race and nearly 3/4ths of the cages are built by Mitch.

Chris stop by if you do any MARRS racing. I will hopefully be racing a Radical SR3 in C sports in two weeks.

We are thinking about the 13 hour depending on our schedules.

    Regards,

    Jon

Chris I am so glad to hear the driver was okay. I was standing by the wall when it happened. It was relief to see the driver climb out under his own breath. Feel free to take any of the pictures from the album I linked. I don't have too many pictures of your team's car except for the post accident ones. I was busy doing lap times and so forth for our team.

Does anybody know where more pictures from the 12-hour are located? Surely there was a photog or two running around there...

We are running the same SRF car that we ran last year @ the 13 hour with Motion Dynamics. It is funny, I was sitting in the parking area when ,I too, noticed it get very quite, which is never a good thing during these races. I don't think that I will make an other MARRS weekend until the double, my work has my weekends tied up right now. I will stop by and say hi if your around that weekend although the CSR class is not that big during that weekend, most have moved to DSR.

    All the best,

    Chris
