It came down to the last race weekend of the season. Some of the closest racing I have ever done in my life. Season was a blast. Long story of how the title was decided (I am co-champion). You can read the story at my website: www.flatoutracing.net and click on the latestest news headline... or go directly here: http://www.flatoutracing.net/headlines/11-6-04.asp For those of you who want to get into racing but don't want to spend a zillion dollars on a Ferrari race car, look into IT racing in both NASA and SCCA. I will have some videos up later in the month as my bandwidth is used up. Regards, Jon P. Kofod www.flatoutracing.net (who has now completely forgotten his 355 C !) Wow! Sounds like an amazing seasons racing! I can't really imagine Ferrari deciding to not take points because McLaren trashed one of their cars. A great story from what looks like a great racing season. I enjoyed that!
Congrats Jon... I knew you'd win it. I've never seen you race in person but you certainly are a kick ass driver from the videos I've seen on your site.
Jon, What can I say but well done. After reading the report of the last race meeting you are the winner in my book, and a winner for such sportsmanship. I would love to know what you found on that Sunday qualifying session to suddenly find 0.5 of a second!!! It must have been a blast the whole season long, and you have enjoyed truly rewarding competition that MS and Ferrari have long forgotten ... your victories were not hollow at all. Pete Note: I am NOT saying Ferrari should slow down ... or otherwise help the competition, just stop the inter team BS tactics when they are NO longer needed.
You guys should see the video from Hyperfest... http://jpkofod.lunarpages.com/Hyperfest.mpg that was a very scary moment when Mr. Koford took to the grass to avoid the sliding Civic.
I will have a season highlight video up in two weeks. My bandwidth got used up pretty fast this past month. Cheers, Jon
Hey major kudos to ya! Now, when are you going to start racing real cars? (Just Kidding. Just Kidding.)
Awesome. Well played! You deserved it. Tell me, how does the FWD feel to you? I never could get comfy with it, and stick to RWD...but then I am no race driver.
C'mon Jon, you know you have not forgotten your Challenge car this fast..... What are your plans for next year????????? I am thinking that Jordan or BAR might have a seat open or maybe Red Bull/Jaguar.... Congratulations, great job.......
Thanks everone for the kind comments. Anthony: Part of the sportsmanship stems from plans for next season. I will be joining the other Co-Champion next season (we are merging teams) and he has major sponsorship headed our way (or at least major for this type of racing) Pete: It was a somewhat cool morning so that likely helped horsepower, I also went out in practice on an empty tank with no added ballast (we have to add weight bars to make legal weight after the race). And of course I asked another car to give me a slight bump draft down the main straight. We aran practice with some cars that aren't normally in our class so I asked a friend in a World Challenge car to give me a little push down the straight. All this was to put pressure on my rival and to some degree I think it worked because when he looked at the time sheets from practice he looked dejected and said "if that's your time..the ballgame's over". Remember all I had to do was get pole and it was over. Omar: I never really had any hangups with FWD. It did take a few sessions to get used to some of the differences (you run a FWD car really loose and you never lift when you get oversteer) but it wasn't as different as I had been led to believe. Huber: What year is your LS and what modifications did you do for autocross? Again thanks everyone for taking an interest in the season. I will have a highlight video in a few weeks. Regards, Jon
