"Change lanes or reduce speed by 20MPH from posted limit"...that one?

It only applies here if cruiser light rack is on.......that'd be your only out here in Texas..

Most here are unaware the law exists though........from my observations.

One of my pet peeves... people who don't yield to emergency vehicles. Pay the fine.

I guess the only varaible is that you made an effort to move over but traffic would not let you but you significantly reduced speed to pass safely for emergency personel on the scene.
    Other than that...you are f'd.

I would also say there is a difference for what the emergency vehicle was parked there. Accident or the Service patrol who is out there to help you is a no-no but some dumb arse cop that has to meet a speeding ticket quota...f it you (as the cop) take your chance and get run over.

The little town of Oakland in western Orange County has State Road 50 running thru it from end to end. The local cops will hop-scotch each other as a two-car team writing tickets for this offense until they are out of their jurisdiction, turn around and start all over again.

Your best defense was one already mentioned....traffic in the middle lane prevented you from moving over. Contest it and see if the cop can prove you didn't slow down enough. Good luck to your friend!

We have them run down by concrete trucks and such here...

IMO it's a good law but they need to increase public awareness..

there probably ARE instances where the newbs around you prevent you from moving lanes......

So I slow way down, sheeit it happened to me just yesterday and the guy was writing a ticket up on the shoulder of the ON RAMP!!!!!

    Nice huh?

70 MPH merge, but you gotta give up 20MPH, all the way up the ramp!

Was the speed measured on a laser or radar device to conclude that the speed was not under 20mph? It should be listed on the ticket how they determined the speed. If not the Ticket is worthless. The officer cannot visually estimate the speed.

    Thats not very nice

By the way there are no such thing as a "Quota" I can write as many as I want. Or none at all. You supervisor may not like it if you dont write any, but he/she has no recourse against you.

Well, timely thread....I DID take time this AM to move over for a police action on the highway and the guy behind me was LIVID! LOL!

Tattoed forearm flipping me off, he tried to go around...

THAT was his mistake, LOL! as he had no idea a Ferrari Owner could wring 120MPH out of a 4 cylinder Toyota Truck!

I was tempted to Earnhardt spin him into the median divider but I just got this truck in September.....;)

I have never been taught, told or heard of a law requiring drivers to slow down 20 miles below posted speed limit and move over lanes when a cop has someone pulled over in a showlder...but one of my old friends got a ticket for it

I believe emergency situations when police/EMT is fighting thru traffic and you dont get out of there way, yes you should get a ticket...but slowing down just bc of a cop writing some1 a ticket would only cause traffic and increase liability of causing an accident

The number one killer of police officers ... not guns... not knives ... car accidents. Too many good men have died on the side of the highway.

    Slow down and move over.

The Georgia version of this law requires you to move over or to slow down TO the speed limit, but not below it......
