Has anyone experienced flying the L-39 jet out of Florida or Nevada (Incredible Adventures)? Just wondering if it is worth it. Any other places that may be as good or better?

    Thanks in advance.

I am interested in the responses, since I am thinking about doing this as well.

I've flown an L-39 before, but I wasn't paying to do it. It was a lot of fun, but in all honesty flying a good aerobatic airplane is more fun, and probably a better experience (depending on what your flying background is, and what you intend your flying to include later). I'm a big fan of exposing yourself to different types of flying as much as you can.

I can't really recommend a place to do it out of, as I haven't been to any of them. I will suggest you look at Jet Warbird Training Center out of New Mexico, though.

I think there's a place in Chicago that does this as well.

A fellow pilot owns a L29. He told me he burns around $800 per hour in jet A. He tries to burn off road kerosene to be able to afford to fly it. Because the L29 is a warbird you must have a agreement from your local FSDO on where you can operate it. You just can't take it to the beach for lunch. I think an Extra 300 would be a better fun factor aircraft.

As an L-39 owner , I can only describe flying the jet as some of the best fun you will ever have. However, from what I understand you must be a pilot of something ( Helicopter, fixed wing, glider ) to actually get a ride. As an owner you have what is called a "program letter" that must be filed with the FAA. The letter should state that all flights are for "proficiency and training " With that in mind you are clearly "training" when you fly somewhere for lunch to get what we call the $1000 hamburger. Yeah, it's a little thirsty for fuel ( all up about $1300 per hour to fly ) but you will not have more fun in any aircraft. And like a Ferrari it will get noticed. ( only about 300 in the US ) If the opportunity presents itself for a flight do not pass it up.

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking for the experience and not wanting to become rated. I have a single engine license, although I am not current. In addition, I have done the glider training as I think every pilot should because sooner or later, you will be a glider. I have done the aerobatics thing in a T6 and so I was wanting to get the jet experience. I'll check out the suggestions. Thanks again.
