I live in West Michigan and I do not fly much, but my son and I are going to go skiing in Utah in Feb ’06. As I look for flights which airport is better to use O Hare or Midway? Is one easier to get to in the morning? Is one better than the other for parking (on or off site)? Thank you for your help -Skip in Michigan

I've never flown out of Midway, but I've only heard good things....Goto O'hare if you feel like being grouped with thousands of nuts and sitting on a runway for a couple hours.....OK it was only once, but once is enough! :)

I would go with Midway. Closer to you, too. Midway was great 10-15 years ago, but with the new terminal, it's a little more congested than it was back then. But it is not nearly as bad as O'Hare is.

Just move from Chicago - but still go often...

Both are bad - with delays - traffic getting there, etc. But if you must pick a poison - go with Midway.

Honestly getting there (depending on time of day) could be the worst part of it - but Midway will be better than O'hare in that regards.

Look at South Bend, IN to fly out of. It should be much closer for you since you are in Michigan and is very easy to get in and out of.

Definately try Midway than O'Hare you might get a much cheaper deal from the carriers out of Midway than O'hare. A lot less traffic issues and people issues. better on time takeoffs, too. How far are you from Detroit, if you are from West MI? Maybe better from there?

Just back from a trip that ended in Midway.

As I said before: If you like carrier landings, Midway is for you.

Once the plane stopped we had about 100 yards of runway left. I'm just waiting for the day when...

LOL--that's the truth! Skip, I think it really depends on when you're flying. My wife and I flew out of Midway in late March and had to park 2 miles away in the far remote lots. Jammed. Everyone says that O'Hare is bigger and more crowded, but ever since they revamped Midway, it's as dense or denser with people. 20,000 people in a hangar, or 100 in your living room. Take your pick. In general the employees at Midway are surlier than at O'Hare. Bottom line: if there's a significant difference in airfare, let that be the deciding factor. I prefer O'Hare, but then again, how enjoyable can you expect the flying experience to be these days?

O'Hare just implemented new security gates at the AA terminal. Expect major delays until all of them are opened.

Midway (like Atlanta) has one central security gate, which causes major delays to get in.
