I currently have my Private pilot, going to work on my IFR once I get a little money set back. Where / when can I start looking for an entry level pilot position? I'm not to proud to fly a grunt job as long as I can pay the rent and get to fly.

What are the requirements and opportunities to fly airplane ferry? I know new General Aviation planes are coming off the lines quicker than maybe anytime in history. Read article a few days ago about 70 new Cessnas in Kansas waiting to be flown to their new owners.

I think CFI is still the easiest way to get a flying career going, hours and money OK.

If you really have a passion for flying, there are no "grunt" jobs - only opportunities to learn more about airplanes, the environment they operate in, and the people associated with them. Sure some are more lucrative than others, but no one starts flying as a career anymore with the idea in mind of making it rich one day. Sorry - some of these jobs are for those people who have alternate means of support and don't have to be all that concerned about food on the table and rent.

You don't have to be a professional pilot to enjoy flying.

You misunderstand the meaning of my statement. I don't think there are any pilot jobs that don't require a certain amount of skill or that will not be learned from. What I was saying is that I'm not above ANY paid / partially paid flying job.

Where alternative means of support are concerned. I think that the fact that there are jobs that won't even pay rent speaks volumes to how aviators are being taken advantage of. I can make a lot more money as a truck driver than I can as a cargo pilot.... to me that's a little frustrating. I'd still choose cargo any day but don't expect me to be happy about being taken advantage of because I have a passion for flying.

A North Texas area pipeline chief pilot is looking for someone entry level to get paid $20-22 an hour. Flying time is about 32 hours a week and other paid time is paperwork. Looking for someone with at least 500 hours, but preferably 1,000. Build hours up real quick at 32 a week and getting paid for it instead of paying someone else.

Sounds like a fun job too flying 100-200 AGL in places doing 60 degree turns and what he roughly describes when you reach a pipeline end at low altitude you pull it up and almost do a little hammerhead bringing tail around with rudder to go other direction. Very important skill is being coordinated under these extreme maneuvers at low altitude without watching the ball. Also says that even some great experienced pilots can't hack it because of motion sickness.
