Hello Everyone, I am looking for a flywheel for a 1988 328gts. In the process of changing the clutch and the flywheel has a lot of cracking. Machine shop recommends replacement rather then resurface. The flywheel is NLA through Ferrari. Does anyone have any leads on where i could get a flywheel? Thanks
Resurrection: Rather than resurfacing my original flywheel I was going to replace it while doing the clutch. Apparently Ferrari doesn’t make them anymore ! WTF luckily I can grind mine if needed, but it’s a bit shocking that Ferrari isn’t supporting these cars anymore. Global search going on with all the usual suppliers, but nothing yet. Anyone have one ?
Superformance only has a NOT for USA version. Question is, what’s different about that version and will it work ??
I have no idea why anyone uses them as a source. If they had a brain they could answer that question. Someone should ask themselves why only do it yourselfers use them. If you find a real need to shop outside of the USA why not shop at Superformance's source Maranello Classic? They are real Ferrari people and actually know their job as does Ricambi America, A&W and T Rutlands. Maranello Classic is by the way Ferrari's official vintage car parts supplier. So anyone who said Ferrari is in some way culpable for not supporting the old cars is wrong and needs better sources. The part is fully compatible and why all the other part numbers were discontinued. It was a needless redundancy. If you are going to replace a perfectly good flywheel I'll give you $200 for the old one. I have only replaced one V8 flywheel in the last 40 years but it would be handy to have a spare.
The ignition timing markings and valve event timing markings on the OD will be different than a US version, but I believe that it would work functionally. If you go that route, using your old US version flywheel as a guide, you should be able to add your own set of US marks with a small punch to the euro flywheel OD.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Eurospares is who said it’s NLA after contacting FERRARI Ricambi site also says NLA and is always 40% more expensive these days if they did have it Ferrparts and All Ferrari Parts are looking…… I’ve never had anything but good service from Superformance for Dino parts at least just sent email to Maranello Classic
Each tooth is about 2.5 deg so (using where each mark is in relation to the nearest tooth) you should be able to be within a few tenths of a degree.
https://www.awitalian.com/product/flywheel-w-ring-gear.html/ Given the nature of the engine builds we do the stock setup is not capable of supporting the output. We have a company in Japan mfg complete assy , flywheel, clutch, TO bearing etc.. however there's always a lead time of 4-6 months, and we're out of stock.... Again.
Thanks for the reply’s and glad to make this issue known to the community. I’m getting my original flywheel resurfaced as it’s the 1st clutch change in the car with only 24k documented miles.
My flywheel was skimmed once during a clutch change. How much can one resurface these, is there a minimum thickness specification?
As usual, Ferrari only gives a specification in both the 308GT4 WSM and 308QV/328 WSM that the "Maximum wear of flywheel thickness = 0.8 mm". I've got a handwritten note in my 308GT4 WSM (that I must have gotten here) that someone measured a new 308 flywheel at 16.05 mm -- so 16 - 0.8 = 15.2 mm minimum thickness (but 15mm would still probably be OKish - JMO).
