Is it just me or are the prices listed by Ferrari of Atlanta high? Eg. $100000 for a stock '99 355B with manual trans, 10K miles, and the last major service done in 2004?

Asking prices aren't necessarily the same as selling prices. And sometimes FoA cars are consignment cars, the the owner sets the price, not the dealership.

You are generally getting a 1 or 2 owner Ferrari at a Ferrari dealership...typically in great condition with no issues, no stories, no title problems...and generally a 30 day warranty on their used vehicles.

Plus, you are paying your dues to be higher up on waiting lists for new Ferrari models.

All of the above *will* mean something to a few buyers, and won't mean much to others. That's why more than just Ferrari Dealerships sell used Ferraris.

(oh, one point worth mentioning is that FoA has a long-standing reputation for negotiating on the first quoted price for maintenance...perhaps they negotiate on sticker price occassionally, too)

I was surprised to see a 1990 348ts there yesterday, with about 36000 miles, for $50k, which seems to be a great price. Granted, it is a '90, but I would think that after 17 years whatever problems the car might have had would have been exorcised out of it by now.

That 348 has new seats too. John Dutton just finished those before he did mine.
I also thought that was a good deal even with the miles.

Does FOA mind if people come to the dealership to just walk around and look at the cars?

Not at all, I used to go to FAF all the time and my mother would wait in the car while I quized Stephen, that was in 1988. I just saw him again after about 5 years as well as met Levi, who is a great guy.

On pricing, I would have no problem paying more for a car from them or any other franchised dealer since those cars seem to have less issues from the begining. That does have exceptions though.

They don't have a large amount of cars to sell. I think they ask what they think is market maybe on the high side a little and leave a little room for striking a deal. A lot of their cars are well taken car of and look new. Atlanta is a great place to buy a car because the salt and snow isn't there. I always laugh when people think Florida is better. If you don't wash your car one a week and then have a dehumidifier in the garage your car will rot in Florida. No snow but lots of salt.

I don't think they mind if you come and walk around as long as you are honest with the sales folks and don't waste their time. If you tell them up front that you are just a big Ferrari fan and maybe one day will own one, they are more likely to be nice to you. Maybe they will even take you downstairs where the really fun cars live.

I was there today just roaming around looking at 355s. Met a gentleman who was very nice, we chatted up on cars and ferraris, etc. Then he was kind enough to show a special car that was in for service. He made me guess what was it. From our viewpoint in one of the conference rooms looking over the service garage, you could only see the top and side of the car. He said "OK this is a test on your knowledge...what car is that?" Hmm..after some hemming and hawing....Maserati MC12. I passed the test :)

At the very end of our discussion, when I asked him for a card. He admitted that he didn't work there, but was standing in for some of the regular reps who were on vacation. He's a long time customer.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Wow!! Is there an MC12 in the Atlanta area now? I know theres one in Florida but it would seem there are plenty of FL shops that could work on an MC12. Very interesting. Perhaps Mr. Wettach has made an MC12 purchase.
