OK, so now I feel really silly. This is a follow up to "where to get oil". I get the car warmed up by driving several miles until I am sure the oil temp is up to normal. I go to check the oil level with the car on level ground and at idle and I find the oil is bubbly/foamy on the dip stick. So I let the car sit for ten minutes or so at idle and recheck. The oil is still foamy although a bit less so and is as far as I can tell above the max level on the dip stick. When I checked the other day before I did the post about finding oil I misread the level because of the foaming although I had just finished a "spirited" drive so I thought that might be why it foamed. Is this normal? My porsche does not foam in the reservoir tank. The dealer assures me the oil is quaker state 5w-40 synthetic. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Been discussed a lot and many have the same problem. Some here shut the motor off to check but that has an obvious problem. I am using Redline and I don't have the foaming problem so I can't be of too much help.

Shell oil foams big time. I found out not long ago that my dealer was putting Mobil 1 0-40 in my 430 since new. It's not available in stores but they get it from Mercedes.

    Dave,

I buy 0-40 European full synthetic from my local O... shop. Normally about $7.99 a quart. (Availibilty might vary from state to state).

Actually, I meant to say Mobil 1 5-40 which is not available in stores. 0-40 is and I use it in other cars.

I use Valvoline 5W-40 fully synthetic oil in my 575M. It is non-foaming, available nearly everywhere, and has been highly rated in oil comparison tests.

I stopped using the Shell and Quaker State Q oils because of the foaming.

The Mobil 1 European blend synthetic is used in Mercedes and Porsches from the factory and is another good oil.

    It should not foam.

If it is a coffee with light milk color you have water getting into your oil. Since oil and water do not mix it is called an emulsion. If this is your problem I would not drive the car. i would get it to a fealership.

If it is oil color foam I would try the oil that Ferrari recommends. If it still foams

You are getting air in your oil. Proably a hose pin hole leak. It needs to still go back to your dealer. Oil/ air combination can deprive your car of the correct lubrication.

I very small amount of bubbles like a dropplet is probably okay or even normal. Most cars do not foam. Some of the older oil that had a detergent as part of the additive package would foam a little.

The other question I would ask is it new? If it has just started something has changed and that is never good. It could be a sheap fix like a gasket

Mobil 1 is good oil. Use the oil spec that Ferrari recomends. If you get foam still then you know

    Good luck
