Am I correct in thinking the 360 would have come with 3 key fobs when new, 2 black and 1 red?
How is the red one special?

If you are looking at a used car with one or more missing, does it mean that there are 1 or more people walking around out there who could just walk up and drive off with the car, irrespective of who owns it at the time?

Could be a profitable business-- sell your car, have a Guido steal it and sell it overseas, and share the funds with him. :-(

Also, there seem to be some cars for sale missing tools, books, spare wheel, etc.
Coming from the Dino community where books and tools will set you back over $10K, I have difficulty understanding how a buyer would not want those items.

Can anyone shed light on how these items could be missing without some real idiot being in the ownership chain?

Yes thats what they came with. The red fob will only reprogram a new immobilizer if the car should ever need one.

Most owners throw all that stuff in the garage when they get the car home. After kicking it around a while someone gets told to get it out of the way and it gets thrown in the garbage. Another scenario is keys, books and tools go missing because owners or dealers lose them or they decide they want a souvenir or to sell them. In more than one dealer I have seen the salesmen will go to the cars file to get keys and when they are done showing a couple of cars, instead of going to the trouble of figuring out which keys are which they just get thrown in some receptacle. I have found more than one waste basket in sales departments with 20 or 30 sets of keys in it for who knows what cars.

Most new owners have no idea the importance of those items. They are happy to get a key and figure they will just get a spare later and have no idea as to the expense and hassle to replace the fobs. That was one of the items we took care of when we were still doing PPI's. That bullet dodged alone more than paid for our service.

    I'm speechless.
Except for the "keeping something as a souvenir" idea I find the other behaviors you describe as being incredibly disrespectful of the next owner / buyer and the marque itself.

Salesmen who can't be bothered to keep keys and fobs to their cars in stock organized in a cabinet?
Sounds like something I'd expect in a fly by night used car lot selling $5K beat up Hondas.
    Inexcusable at a Ferrari dealership.

I can see you are one of those that believes Ferrari salesmen are different than Toyota, used Chevy, or even furniture salesmen.

It would be nice but it isn't the real world.

    That's really depressing.

You'd think that being an enthusiast would be a requirement for being an F salesman.
