We would like to thank Gerry Geraci and all who responded with interest in attending this planned event. Unfortunatly due to low attendance, we regret to advise that we have decided to postpone the November 4th Tech Session until Spring of 2008.
Again, a big thanks to Gerry for offering the Car X facility in Westmont to host the event.

    Tod & Bill,
I wanted to make sure those who did respond earlier in the thread had enough time to make other plans for Sunday. Even with Tod, that would have been only seven not including myself. We had double that amount for the Spring event, which was a nice size group for this type of event.

My own tech session is scheduled for this weekend. I have fluorescent dye to find that poltergeist oil leak and a honking big black light so even I can see it (Friday night). Then a change of motor and gear box oil (Saturday). Test drive on Saturday or Sunday! If I find the oil leak and it is fixable without extensive effort, I’ll start on that as well.

Thanks to Dave and the last spring tech session makes this possible.

The next tech session hopefully will be still cover brakes as I think I got my rotors a bit heated up on a few drives. Now they chirp when I drive. Checked the pads and they are fine. Probably just need to turn the rotors.

    Update on my efforts.

First the bad news.......the oil leak is from the cam seals. The good news is that it is slow so I'll just live with it until the next major.

Gear oil replaced with Redline 75W90NS. I was surprised that the old gear oil was rather dark (dirty?) when drained. During the test drive it shifted into second right out of the driveway (cold). That was a first for me and this car.

Motor oil changed, and no major spills. Replaced it with 50% Castrol 10W40 and 50% Castrol 5W30. The oil pressure when warm was 40 psi at idle and 85 psi when driving so I think it will be okay this winter. Also, the oil pressure gauge seemed more responsive with the lower viscosity oil because in the past the pressure never got past about 87 psi, but now when I hit 6000 - 7000 rpm it will be at about 100 psi on the gauge. I guess I'll need to watch those rpms.

Only one minor issue, while the car was up on the lift, my wife came out and raised the garage door. Minor bump on the back deck and it left a small chip in the paint. I guess this makes up for when I crunched her car's front fender on the side of the garage two weeks ago. (She still hasn't seen it yet!) Repositioned the lift, so now I get the right garage door clearance and an additional 12 inches of lifting heigth. Should have done that before, but I was lazy.

Dave, need any help? I need an answer to my burning question (see above post). Otherwise, I'll have to wait until spring and be haunted by it all winter! Months of therapy ;)

Looks like at least three home tech sessions. As soon as my Red Line gear oil arrives I will do my clutch. I bought both the "NS" and the MTL, will make the final decision on which one to use the day of the project.

I installed a fire extinguisher bracket made by ERIK SALTRØNES [[email protected]] this weekend. I found Erik's name on FChat. His bracket is made from a single piece of aircraft grade aluminum plate. Easy to install and looks great.

The question about tightening the alternator tensioning bolt? I use an offset box wrench on the bolt head that is long enough to lock against the firewall and a socket on the nut.

Easy on the oil pressure John.
Hopefully the dash gauge is just reading higher than normal. These cars are not known for accurate instruments. Normal hot oil pressure should be 75-90 psi at 6-7000 RPM.

Having any oil on the timing belts could cause them to fail, and on an interference engine thats a disaster. You need to keep a close eye on the oil leak and have it checked out. If oil has made contact with the timing belt, don't use the car until it is repaired.

Thanks Dave, I'll check the belts for oil contamination.

The oil pressure is a bit of a question. I'll watch it, but never seen it hit 100 before.

Before adding all NS, let me check my sharp turning "noise". With the NS in the gear box, it works great but I found some "grinding" noise on slow sharp turns. This may be due to the limited slip differentials. Some people have added a quart of MTL to quiet things down. I need a bit more drive time to figure out if that is what I am hearing.

FYI, my car took about 4.3 quarts of oil in the gear box.
