No, not another hot potato, simply an observation. Although happy to be a supporter and member of the club I have always been a bit sceptical about its value for money. However... I was going to be charged £67 for 17 day AA Euro breakdown PLUS a £40 surcharge as the car is just over 11 years old. Not happy However again... big thanks to Mal, who put me onto RAC. They also have a similar surcharge, but waive it for members of RAC affiliated clubs... which of course the FOC is. £40 saved! So, in conclusion, if you plan on taking your car abroad it is definitely worth becoming a member, on top of any insurance discounts you may receive. Value for money? ... it is now!
I wouldn't exactly call 11,000 miles in 10 months as a weekend car, not getting out and being used? Fair enough, I don't keep it in the living room looking pristine ready to take advantage of every (undoubtedly good value) Owner's Club track day and concourse competition that comes along... but that's because I'm usually too busy driving it on the roads! My post was intended as objective support for the club - not a springboard for yet another petty dig at those who may or may not be members.
FWIW, my scheme on the 308, with Specialist Car Division - an FOC recommended agent - includes European breakdown cover as standard, along with legal and UK breakdown....and I didn't need to be an FOC member either. All for a great price of £320 all in
Didn't think he was for a minute Steve, just a bit of an unnecessary dig at those who have in the past, quite reasonably, questioned whether they get £80s worth. I for one didn't feel I got any particular great value for money, but still paid my dues in the general spirit of things. Now I have benefited from membership in a direct and financial way I just thought it would be nice to pass the experience on.
I was not haveing a dig or taking the piss your right Steve I have been a member since 89 The list of events and weekend activities are endless If you want to use your car and get your monies worth .what about the local area groups you can get involved with ,the two lots of magazines ,the tech help and discounts grat value i say Thanks for you nice comments burriana about springboards and conkers you are way off track m8 ,i was not having a pop at anybody unlike some ... count yerself luck mate, in newcastle we have only just got roads never mind owners groups us lot find it hard to get time off from the pit
In addition to what's been said by Al & Ray, access to specialist trips makes all the difference. Through the Cotswold Group, I managed to blag my way onto the Graypaul Luxury Tour this September. The more I look at this trip, the more I think what an excellent value for money trip it is. So without being a member, I probably wouldn't have got invited - yeah its costing me more money, but you've only got to look at the itinerary to appreciate the amount of organisation behind it - that's FOC value.
Tel 01485544500 Sandra, she will explain all, and about the cravat .A Ferrari is a requirement or you can join the Prancing Horse Register . RAY360M
Steve got to http://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/joining/index.asp for further details unfortunatley the cravats are compulsory, but a recent change means the ladies are now excused from wearing Monicles.
unfortunatley the cravats are compulsory, but a recent change means the ladies are now excused from wearing Monicles ok seems reasonable for what you get from it,i will join just after i collect my new baby ,so can anyone recommend a good cravat shop!
I think its £70 for just the B&W mags and another £20 for the colour mags, oh and its from January to January so you'll only only get another 5 months worth
just went on club site and it membership runs begining nov to end october you pay £75 and when ever you join they give you all the previous months issues! so to me its hardly worth joining till nov just as the ferrari go to hibernate for winter,is this right?
Black and white (monthly) I think mag and a quarterly glossy magazine of very high quality. Same applies to Prancing Horse Register (PHR) also through FOC. PHR is just £25 p.a. though.....
ive just joined the FOC and get a little insurance discount, ray's car is no longer kept in the living room, its wraped in cotten wool by me
