I am a Rossa Subscribed member, run the FXX registry, and am doing the site for the P 4/5. I'd love to delve deeper into the Ferrari community and would like to join the FCA or FOC, however, I'm not sure which I should go with. Doing both is currently not an option. I do not presently own a Ferrari and live in the Chicagoland area. Would it be worth it to join either group, if so, which would better suit me for the time being? Thanks!

Chicagoland area, probably FCA. FOC seems to be mainly a California and a touch of Florida thing. They have just about nothing for the New England area and i do not recall seeing anything for your area in the past year or so.

FOC if you like to drive it, FCA if you like to look at it.

Find out which club is the most active in your area... join that club.

FCA or FOC largely depends on local membership to determine how each chapter will function.

You question may be better served if you ask it in your regional forum.

I think it largely depends on which has an active chapter/region in your area. Since I don't think FOC has anything in Chicago, the choice should be FCA.

BTW, I agree with Lolaman. FCA is by far more driver oriented.

Steven, you must have not been looking closely enough, we (FOC Midwest) had on average one event per month in the Chicago section. FOC Midwest is the 4th biggest FOC section nationwide (behind LA, San Diego and FL).

Walter, you should really ask that question in the Chicago forum of FChat as these clubs are very regional.

Of course I can't really give you an advice about which club to join as I'm heavily biased. :)

No question there; at least based on the events available from both clubs to me in my region.

Good idea. I was considering doing that at first, but then I figured I'd open it up to a broader forum for more debate. It seems FCA is winning here, and although you may have a bias (IIRC you're the FOC MW President, yes?) feel free to convince me :).

In Arizona a bunch of Ferrari owners and enthusiasts wanted to start a chapter of either club about 7 years ago. FOC were hot and heavy with info and visits and we formed an FOC chapter in AZ. Within a very short period it became apparent that the FOC was S. Cal centric and probably 95% of their events were for S. Cal members. Our dues went primarily to supporting other states functions and expenses.
We looked long and hard at the FCA and in an overwhelming membership vote, we switched to the FCA. Our chapter which covered the greater Phoenix area initially has grown into the entire Southwest with affiliate sub chapters in NEV and N Mex, which hopefully one day will grow to be their own chapters. We have close to 300 members and a very active region with drives, concours, social gatherings, holiday parties and impromtu get togethers.
The bottom line is that if there is an active and involved membership connected by enthusiastic leaders and club officers you will have a great time.

I have always believed that our Southwest region could stand entirely on its own, unaffialiated with either the FCA or FOC and still the maintain the quality and quantity of our events. Others however like the national affiliation for the ability to coordinate large events like Pebble or the FCA national meet.

I retract what I said about FOC not having a Chicago presence. I misread the web site.

However, I still would choose FCA, even though I'm a member of both.

Your memory is correct. FOC Midwest does stuff FCA Central Region doesn't and vice versa (although there is some overlap). Personally I don't see the clubs in our region as competitors, but rather symbiotic. FOC Midwest is also much smaller, which has a direct influence on what we do and don't. Which for some stuff actually has its advantages.

Since you're not an owner, it really doesn't matter that much which club you join (I would give you different advice if you owned a car you wanted to bring to events). You can still go to all the events as a guest.
As a non owner you should look at what the clubs can offer you otherwise. FOC has IMHO the nicer monthly magazine Pilota, where I always try to make sure that our club members get good coverage for events they attended. FCA has the quarterly Prancing Horse magazine, which is top notch, but more of a nationwide magazine. Both clubs offer memorabilia (e.g. shirts with club embroidery).

Personally I'm in both clubs. Simply because they don't do the same.

It really depends on the region you're talking about. The differences are huge region to region.

You can't really compare FCA to FOC, you should compare them locally. Just my two cents.

Absolutely. You cannot compare them nationally only regionally. In our area, the FOC has WAY more driving related events vs. the FCA.
