Flying to SA on the 20th so won't make it. Had a great day out at Goodwood yesterday , only 25 cars in total and 5 on circuit at a time. Was a 105db day but challenge exhaust was 110db at 6000 rpm so had to bolt on "quiet boxes" which brought it down to 102 db ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm unsticking this one as we're over run with stuck threads at the moment. I think everybody that wants to go is aware of this trackday by now
Yes Yes Yes can I come, how do I get to go on this one, just what I needed, take the red girl out and spank her. RSVP to me. Oh sod it, I just realised that I have got a meeting in London that day, can you postpone it and have the meet the day after please? D11VE:J
Not necessarily. There's a happy medium where you can have a great time without wrecking the car. I've just done almost 3,000 kms down to Italy and back plus on track at Fiorano and the car loved it as much as I did. Brakes, tyres etc. got all me all the back again with no problems. No point in having a Ferrari as an ornament! Get it out and use it!!! There are plenty of places available for Brands still. The full GP circuit is still one of the best tracks in Europe IMHO. Jonathan
The full GP Circuit was the first track I ever took the 348 on - I have been spoiled as nothing has come close since
Have to say I am keen to try this circuit but the FOC view on how to run a track day continues to stand out as amateur. For just over 1/2 the money I am getting all of the below included: - Open pit lane with 5 hours track time on Magny Cours Track time. No need to join in 30 minute slots where certain individuals try to prove they shold be promoted into next class. - Dinner sponsored by Laurent Perrier (why oh why can't the FOC wake up and start getting sponsors - when the factory want Mumm to sponsor and Veuve Cliquot have are also keen) in the Grand Prix Suite. And I can assure you it is not going to be burger, chips and beans - Next day brunch in the pits With hotels and crossing coming at £70 extra it is still better value/food/track time/"apres track" to go to France. If there are any left over champagne bottles left unopened I will raffle them when I get back (fat chance!!).
What is an "Open pit lane"? The FOC trackday supposedly has one, so does it mean that anyone can walk in even if they are'nt FOC members??
It relates to how cars are allowed onto the circuit, rather than any security or public access arrangements to the pits An open pit lane means any car can go out on track at any time, subject to the track not being overly congested. The FOC method is to allocate everybody to one of 3 groups(based on ability, nature of car, experience etc). Each group is then allowed 30 minutes track time before the next group takes over
Whilst the origins of this system are based on safety some individuals are all too keen to show they should be promoted due to their ability. Wasn't one of the Fchatters hit into the wall at Silverstone earlier this year by another FOC member trying to do this? With the French FOC aka Club Ferrari France (CFF) system there is over 5 hours of time on track. The only point when congestion sometimes occurs at the start when many people are keen to get on track. After 10 minutes it becomes perfectly clear and individuals are there for enjoyment and not proving anything else to others.
The trouble with the FOC days is that they rely on challenge teams using the track days as cheap test days so if you had open pit lanes these guys would run all day, and they don't stick to the FOC rules of engagement ask any member thats been out in group 1. These track days should be for the sole enjoyment of members who wish to have some fun and drive home not "set up days" on the cheap.
I agree with you to a point but when you register for the event you specify which group you want to be placed in. Having done a couple of track days now I could easily have placed myself within group 2 but being the chicken that I am I opted to stay in group 1. I don't have anything to prove as I know that next track day I can select group 2, as can anybody with previous experience Going from group2 to group3 may be different, I don't know, but as far as I know as long as you've got the correct experience or type of vehicle etc then I don't believe you will be prevented from going into group 3. I know the FOC have some kind of register of "incidents" at track days so if you're on the list then maybe they stop you going up a group until you've proved your ability? However, I'm not aware that the opposite happens i.e. that they observe peoples' driving skills with a view to allowing them entry into a higher group next time We need some FOC bloke on here to confirm this. Jonathan where are you... Having said all that you are always going to get somebody trying to prove he's so much better than anybody else in the group Yes there was an accident at Silverstone. I believe it was caused by somebody overtaking on the bend at the beginning of the straight. The guy he was overtaking ran wide, as he would, and the bloke going past in the 360 ended up on the grass and bounced his way down the pit lane via the wall. Several times! French system sounds good
Izza it sounds great and the vids and pics look as if its very organised too. I shall join you on these French FOC trackady , pls keep me up to date with the calander if thats ok?? Joe
