Can the fog lights be turned on without the headlights being on? If so, how?
It would certainly be polite and answer the question. I turned the fog light switch in the console on but the fog lights only worked the the headlights on. Here is a photo of a 1989 with only the fog lights on. An answer would be appreciated. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, the parking (side marker) lights are also "on" in that photo (i.e., the stalk knob is rotated "on" and the stalk lever is in the uppermost position I = parking lights "on", but the headlight pods stay down -- see page 24 in your 376/86 OM). The 376/86 OM does mention that those lights are "daylight flashing lights" on L.H.D. euro 328 and "anti-fog lights" on R.H.D. euro, and the US 328 396/85 OM says that they are "front fog lights". I would also add that it's not too uncommon for the wiring of such lights to get modified for an individual Owner's tastes and/or when a car is imported -- e.g., a LHD euro 328 may have had them changed from daylight flashing lights to fog lights when brought into the US. None of those OMs mention how they should work, but it would not surprise me at all if (for fog light operation) the stalk knob also had to be rotated "on" (and if yours is/was a LHD euro that has been modified to make those now fog lights = anything random might have been done ).
