And that's not money raised from advertising, that's money from a licence fee that every TV owner in the UK has to pay! (mind you, it does mean We get no adverts in the middle of the programs on the BBC channels, so the F1 coverage is uninterupted and We are guaranteed coverage of all the races :) ).

I remember our friends from London mentioning the license fee for TV owners....is that based per set or based on size of tv??? do you still pay for specific channels...like our direct tv satellite here?? just curious...

    Thanks,
    Carol

I'm out of touch but am sure someone more up to date will correct my understanding if I'm wrong:

    - I believe you're *supposed* to pay per set [Size is irrelevant]. However, if your household has a license for one the "TV police" won't hassle you (?)
    - Over the air broadcasts - BBC1, and 2 - no ad's plus 3 ITV channels (with ad's) come "for free".
    - You can subscribe (at different levels like here) to SKY (satellite) and Virgin (cable). I believe a lot of soccer and cricket is now only available via these - They paid the big bucks and people were *pissed* - It's your "right" as a citizen to watch those sports for free was the argument!....

    Please correct if wrong,

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Thanks.
Of all the pre-season stories this may have the most wide-spresd impact. It is, after all, about Bernie's favorite topic ;)

    That's money BTW

This is the way it works in Finland. Enforcement is a very demanding and stressful but respected job that can lead to a membership in the parliament and suicide.

I wonder what percentage of loss of viewership is due to constantly changing rules and political shenanigans within the FIA/F1? People have grown tired of it. Not to mention races going to places where nobody really cares about racing.

I think FOM is blaming the decline on late starting races and not all the other BS. The late races alone aren't enough to account for the drop in viewership numbers reported. A factor, yes, but certainly not the biggest IMHO. It's only part of the problem.

But now that Michael is back I'm sure this will be a record setting year for viewership.

Basically if you have a TV or any equiptment (including computers) capable of recieving any of the BBC TV channels, you have to have a TV licence that costs £139.50 ($220) per year. This licence covers you for any number of TV's and sizes of TV's at the address on the licence.

Most of the popular channels are available on a digital signal for free through either aerial, cable or satellite, depending on provider, with some pay per view channels included or you can subscribe to SKY TV every month and get around 620 TV channels + @ 80 radio channels.

All the providers have to supply the BBC channels for free so the Grand Prix's are guaranteed to be available.
