    It's great to see so much enthusiasm for these old cars. We'll never see anything like them again...the qualities which still render them special also sealed their fate, due to emissions and noise regulations.

    Back in the 70s, Porsche did its damndest to kill the 911...but the buying public had other ideas.

    As for selling prices, they're all over the map. I was willing to pay more for a turn-key driver. One nice thing about these 80s P-cars is the general availability of parts.

    Later cars (1987 model to 1989) had an altogether easier to use gearbox (G50) type) with reverse beside 5th. The benefit is a stronger gearbox, capable of more misuse and easier to learn.

    The later type is more valuable but in some ways I prefer the older models for half the cost.

    $25-30k per excellence magazine pricing for clean car.

    True. That, plus escalating customer demands for more luxury and speed. In the age of the pushbutton retractable hardtop, no one is going to "settle" for a lightweight, simple targa panel. And, the aircooled engine is now a relic of an era where 200 bhp was considered a lot.
