Actually that question was about the boat. I understand completely about the B17 and agree it will look spectacular once painted. As cool as the B17 is your shop gives us peeks at some other really interesting models and seems you have very eclectic tastes in war birds.

I was friends with several old WW2 fighter pilots, P-47, P-38 and they both had been in dogfights. The P-38 pilot was the fastest ace in the air force but he had shot up armored columns , trains, and air fields. The P-47 pilot shot down a lot of bombers and, of course, messed up a lot of airfields and troop columns. He was a Polish expatriate and was driven to get revenge. Once the 8th and the 9th Air forces got put together the Germans were done.

There is no motivator greater than fighting for your home. The Polish pilots left a deep impression on the other RAF pilots.

The Pilot that I mentioned took down a JU-88 by ramming the tail because he was out of ammo. The P-47 got him back to base, damaged propellor and canopy, and injured pilot. He told me that if he had died in his attack , it would have been worth it because he would have taken four of them down with him. He had a large scar on his forehead from the pieces of his canopy.

Few more. I have been building and flying since I was 14. I rarely lose a model. I run a lot of redundancy and I maintain them. Occasionally, I will sell one.

Glad I got that one right. In the background the Corsair looked like a full bubble canopy but at least it was a Corsair.

You're going to need a bigger place.

Wow! Impressive ! You are doing a lot of work here. I gave all of my B-17 data to Boeing archives and I wish that I could have supplied the loft lines to everything for you. That's one of the airplanes that will be well ensconced in my mind when I head west. Few of us now can recall that hearty rumble of that airplane, especially when there was 12 of them going over.

Must have been an amazing experience. I have had a B-29 (FiFi) fly low over my house several times over the past 20+ years...can only imagine the sound of all of those large radials as they took off from Tinian.

At the last air show at Langley Field in 1945, they put three training squadrons up and made a fly over . There were 34 of them at about 5000 ft. with an escort of some P-40's and P-51's. A lot of the old hands and returning vets couldn't contain their emotions. Won't see that or feel that ever again.

Again at Langley , our barrack was right at the end of the ramp where all the B-17's and B-24's made their runups before turning on to the main runway to take off. It went on all night and almost every night. It put me to sleep and when I went home to the beach at Florida, I could not sleep there for months.
