I have one question, should I open the valve permanently? (The dealer is fine with that). Other than the poll, a feedback or comments are welcome here.

Other options such installing a switch (e.g, Novitec, .etc.) is not possible as i got a warning from my dealer thay it will void my warranty.

Just wanna hear opinions. And I apologize in advance if such poll has been published already. I did some search and all i can find was related to 458.

    Cheers

Did it and I'm completely in love with it. Not obnoxiously loud and people usually think I got myself a new exhaust when idling or in the low range. You'll not be dissapointed and dealer is usually very friendly towards this modification.

So no system just opened the valve permanently? No alarms on your screens or something?

DIY, dealer or mechanic did it?

You should have another choice, added a different exhaust and like the sound. I put a Tubi straight pipe on and it's great. What it does is to remove the baffle/resonator/muffler. If you drive the car in RACE mode then the valves open up above 2500 rpm and if you drive in manual mode it's easy to maintain the RPMs above 2500. My car sounds great with the Tubi exhaust.

A switch give you the ability to have it open or closed.

I had plenty situations in which I was happy to NOT have it open ….

Ive not done this. Im not one of the guys that puts sound above all else. I like my 488 just fine the way it is. I think it sounds fantastic. Changing exhausts, opening valves I spoke to my dealer but they weren't too keen on it and I never really pursued it.

Thanks for your reply and the video. You car sounds awesome!

So basically, you change the exhaust and without any remote switch for on/off.

Did it affect you warranty? Your dealer did not mind such change?

    Thanks for your response.

Can you give an example where you were not happy having the valve open? Long ride, neighbors .etc?

I can tell you that my wife, who has zero interest in cars, drives a Tesla has no interest in me getting an exhaust. So spouse would be one reason.

The dealer sold me the exhaust and recommended it as a good OEM substitute because it still includes valves that can be controlled by the ECU so that back pressure can be managed by the ECU. With the valves open all the time the ECU loses control of something it thinks it needs to control. The exhaust resonator is simply on there to reduce noise and has no real benefit to the performance of the engine. Here are the pictures of the stock exhaust and the Tubi.

I left mine stock. I agree with SoCal, the sound of the car is great, but the sound is and was not one of the main reasons that I bought the car. I put the amazing driving dynamics, speed, design, and heritage above the sound.

Enjoy your car, it looks great.

My advice is live with the car for at least half a year. You might find your opinion changes on this. Or you might find it becomes more solidified.

My 488 Spider is stock exhaust, but I did add the valve control switch. In my case, I live in a private gated community that was originally developed by a group of older very conservative gentlemen that decided to limit the ambient "noise" in the community. As an example, our bylaws don't permit Harley's or any other "noisy" motorcycles. So....to not offend my neighbors....I use the switch. Open when I hit the public roadway, closed as I enter my development. I also prefer it closed for some highway driving. Basically, I just like the option to open or close based on location.

BTW, not sure where the "will void warranty" comment comes from, my dealer sells and installs these valve controllers, and assured me there is no effect on the warranty. (US)

I have just plugged my vacuum lines to open the valves permanently over the weekend. Huge difference in sound when driving at low speeds. And down shifts crackles are more pronounced. Not much long drives to do here in the Philippines so I'm perfectly fine with loud mode all the time. Very happy with this mod and was a good DIY exercise for me.

Cold starts are a 100x better now.

Yep. Did it last year and love the sound at low revs and idle. The dealer did it when it was in for the annual service.

Looks like the rear diffuser needs to be dropped to access the valves and hose to plug the vacuum lines and zip tie so the are out of the way and safe? Only see the 4 jack points under the 488 and I am not sure how to or if I can get the 488 up on my 4 round pad jack stands like I could with my GT3 Porsche
