Carl, the car is awesome! My OHOS and yours looked great parked next to each other at the factory the other day! Congrats again on the acquisition.
Nice to see non red cars for a change! Thanks Serge. The reason I'm playing with that 430 is because I'm teaching myself about the modern stuff. A few people asking about servicing them and I've said no in the past. Nothing like hands on experience after you've had your head in the sand stuck in the 1970s. It's a pretty easy car to get around, though removal of the exhaust manifolds looks tricky. Just the dreaded time component that eats away at these things. When I did the wheel alignment, it was a few hours before I could start, after tidying up the under-tray and associated fasteners that had been butchered. A few thoughts. The build quality is embarrassing. At least with a Quattrovalvole 308 or 328 if you shut your eyes and close the door you could almost convince yourself you're driving a clapped out Porsche 911 with 700,000 kms on it, not so with the 430. Nasty plastic door latch mechanisms and the dash is disgusting, faux metal instrumentation bezels for example and nasty cheap plastic indicators for the speedo and tachometer. And the indicator stalks feel like they're going to snap off the column! But the car is very comfortable and goes like mad, the performance is staggering, amplified by the wind in the hair experience.
I know a guy who used to own a 308 with Bordeaux interior....what a dumb arse he was to sell it. Good luck replacing THAT car with anything special
Congratulations Carl, I really like that colour combo. I'm mighty impressed that you bought it as a self learning exercise. Like you're not busy enough!! lol
Absolutely, and after my last brain snap selling the Khamsin was a good/bad life experience but the 456 when sorted will be a Keeper.
I’ll go with that PP. I’m a dumb arse…….hmmm, that seems a tad tame, let’s go for DUMB ARSE in capital. I should change my user name to MrDumbarse. What do you think? Yes, some attributes of my 308 were special-the interior for starters, the sheer hand assembled like quality about it, the old world yet avant garde lines but I never really bonded with it-I just looked at the car and saw far more lost memories then treasured memories with it. For Horse or 360C, they consider their 308’s as deadman’s cars because they have precious memories associated with them. Not just a few good drives, not just a few good memories but lots of them, so even as the car dates, the memories and experiences (both old and new) never do. After 4 years of ownership, I just remember a few nice drives, a lot of great people but mostly a car sitting in a garage laid up somewhere when I needed it most. Admittedly, I ULTIMATELY have to take the responsibility for that. Maybe I was $10K away from having an absolutely great 308 but in the end, I just lost faith in it. The new owner doesn’t have to spend much or do much to start having a rewarding Ferrari experience. My decision was a line ball one PP. Even now, yeah I do have some regrets. The car was getting better all the time........
I only argue with things that aren't facts. You're a bit up yourself thinking I was talking about you, though. The whole world doesn't revolve around you, you know! Good...so you agree with me. You should do that all the time. Horse also really enjoys driving his car.....so it's not just memories of the past, but future adventures too. Funny...I enjoy driving my 308 too. Maybe good 308s are actually nice to drive. yes...yes you do! You're not the right person to own a car like that. It's better off without you. The fact that after 4 years the car was "getting better" speaks volumes to me about how poorly you managed the maintenance of that car. Further, it speaks volumes that your initial criticism of the bloke you bought it from and the guy who 'looked at it for you' were well founded, despite you now denying there was anything wrong with them or the car!!! lol
I guess you know a few guys who sold a 308 with Bordeaux interior lately! How egotistical of me to take it as a dig at me.
For someone who puts others down for their poor comprehension skills, you're not much better....I did say old and new memories and experiences.
