With regards to maintenance and repairs, only the tyres, wheel alignment and brake overhaul actually improved the driving. Would a PPI have picked up the radiator leaking 12 months after purchase? The brakes that worked ok and then occasionally go to the floor due the master cylinder seals failing? Would a PPI have picked up that the original water pump was replaced with an aftermarket one and poorly fitted at that too? Not likely. If Carl didnt notice it at the last major service, I doubt if anyone else wouldve. Would a PPI have noted that some of the cam covers had been sealed with silicone? Perhaps? As for the gearbox, the gearbox was a delight when I first purchased it, on the next service, it was substantially poorer, mainly due to the transaxle fluid used and after redline was substituted in the subsequent service, it was much better but still not nearly as good as when I first drove the car. Obviously, that comes down to selecting the best fluid for the car. Ive never denied that I wasnt disappointed that I wished Phil noted that the shims hadnt been done on the car. Didnt you have some brake issues with your car even though it had been restored? Didnt you have the clutch replaced even though your car had been restored? You were so happy how your car drove that you modified it. NTTIAWWT
