As most of you know, i'm somewhat of a grill slut. Anyway, I picked this unit up at Lowes this past weekend and it's by far the biggest bang for the buck you will find with this type of cooker.

It is very well engineered and I had it up to 700 degrees in no time. Seared some steaks and they were great!

I have a big green egg as well as a viking egg and a small egg and this may become my favorite.

There is no way you will go wrong on this one. It's about $800 cheaper than the egg and easier to move.

    Big Green Egg's are $1100??!? :O
    I had no idea.

Good to see Char-Griller is stepping up their game. Their barrel type grills took a beating in the "what BBQ?" thread.

Weren't you going to post some pics of the new "Grill Farm"?
    :)

That thing looks awesome for the price. Unless my math is wrong, 302 sq. in. should be a cooking surface just shy of 20" across. Not too shabby!

True, but this is a large with all accessories. The comparable BGE is $1000-$1100.

    It's actually 579 there.

Is this one as thick and solid? Are the hinges as H/D?

This one isn't ceramic though, gimmicky way to market another steel smoker?

Keep in mind that i have an Egg along with other Komodo cookers. This won't last as long as an egg, but is a good bang for the buck. It is all metal with metal shelves, which I like. It also comes with the grate grabber and cast iron grates, which are an option with the egg. Hinges are good and it's a very solid unit.

About the only thing it doesn't come with is the cover.

I just wanted to throw it out there for people that didn't want want to spend the money on the egg. This thing is getting really good reviews on the Q forums.

There is also a huge debate about the ones at Costco being grey market and BGE not honoring the warranty. Not sure I believe that though.

I don't think you're going to find a large BGE anywhere with nest and tables for $579.

Is it really thin gauge metal like the average $199 grill? Does it effectively hold the temp steady for long periods of time?

True, the BGE at Costco is the 18"'er, without the shelves.

It's double wall insulated steel. I've had it up to 700 degrees and have mostly grilled with it. I plan on doing a slow and low brisket this weekend and will report back on the temp.
