Were the vehicles produced with s/n 12345, 100000, 111111 and 123456 special in any way? Does anyone know what cars have those numbers ?

To Ferrari, a serial number is just a serial number...

    12345 is a 365 GT 2+2...

100000 is a 1994 RHD F355 Berlinetta, red/tan, converted to Challenge specs (not by the factory)... Car was last seen in Australia...

111111 is unknown, but falls into 1997...

123456 is also unknown but falls into 2001...

    99999 is an F50...

54321 is a 308 GTS QV that was in Florida back in 1999...

Thanks Carbon. I figured that since Ferrari does not reset their s/n at the beginning of each year, that perhaps some special clients may have specifically requested one of the "special" vin numbers.

99999 being an F50, might have been planned.

As an example, I was thinking that someone born on December 23, 1945 might have tried to arrange for the production of their car when s/n 122345 came around. Recently Chevrolet allowed 50 (I think) customers to get a Corvette specifying the last six digits of the VIN. One guy got a 50th anniversary 2003 white/red Convertible built with the same chassis number as the white/red 1953 convertible he already owned. A neat and unique pair that will probably never be separated.

That's pretty cool, i've never heard of anything like that before... So far as i know, Ferrari just stamps each car in accordance with the next number and no one has a say in what number they get... Kind of ironic then that serial numbers are such a big part of Ferrari history...

The cool thing about S/N 99999 is that there are at least two F50s that have that same serial number...

Dave, i'm not sure why that's impressive...

    ...but thank you. :)

i knew it was more than two - i've heard up to six - but i didn't want to throw out a number and be wrong, so i just figured i'd take the safe route and say "at least"... :)

    John...

Each Ferrari that's made is assigned a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)... In fact, every single automobile in the world that is now made has one... Even trailers that hitch on the back of a jeep at least have serial numbers...

But with Ferraris, the last six digits of a Ferrari's VIN is the serial number... Of course, before they hit 100000, it was only the last five digits of the VIN that was the serial number...

Before 1980, there was no VIN law, so Ferraris merely had serial numbers... Ferrari started out making racecars... Each racecar was assigned a serial number - all of which were even... Then they started making road cars... Each road car was assigned a serial number, all of which were odd... Once they came to serial number 75000 (circa 1987), they decided to use both even and odd numbers for their road cars... By that time Ferrari racecars already had a different serial number numbering system...

So let me give you an example... My favorite Ferrari, a black Enzo, is serial number 134282... The full VIN on that Enzo is ZFFCW56A430134282... Notice how the last six are the serial number... Below is a picture of the data plate showing the VIN from 134282... i hope this helps.
