All, Ford Cosworth, Dan Gurney Eagle Heads Ford 289 Block ( Stock Ford block, Heavily Modified.) 10,000 RPM Red Line For F1, it would have 4, dual venturi downdraft, weber carbs, bolted right on top of the heads. ( Note; The manifold would not be there, that is for 1 or 2 Holly Carbs.) Sorry, these pictures are low quality. I will take better pictures later,,sans camera crapaola. Sweet engine. Is the post regarding an engine you have for sale, or just informational about this old boat anchor?
Jag, 600 HP,, yep, this is a Very Special 290 ci motor. It doesn't even smooth out until,, 5,500 RPM Dan Gurney himself said 500 HP max,, or you will push the mains out the bottom of the block. My friend-mechanic made new mains and has them bolted internally w/ 4 bolt mains and externally with 2 more. Note; A questionable Gurney motor, w/o carbs just sold for $ 8.5 k usa I would love to get a Detomaso Mangusta, and drop in this motor. Edwardo
Except for one that was ordered by a GM exec who refused to have a car powered by Ford, so it has a Chevy small block in it. I've seen that car many times.
ha ha,, funny. OK, so here Dan Talks about an Indy-car, Ford V8. in 1963.. "As a Cobra team driver, in addition to F1 driving for Porsche, Gurney was involved in the test development of the aluminum small-block Ford V8 that became the Indy-car engine. It was essentially an aluminum version of the Fairlane 260 V8, sleeved down to 256 or 255 cubic inches (depending on whom you ask), drinking in its fuel-air mix through four Weber side-draft carburetors. The engine weighed 360 pounds and put out about 370 horsepower in race trim." Photo is from 1963,, Dan finished 7th. Clark, in back, finished 2nd. (Notice the Zombie like stares from both guys.) The factory Mangusta factory frame set-up would not hold-up. A fellow owner had a Boss302 in his and frame welds came apart in several locations. Another owner has a basketcase car that has mucho denero frame mods, it's for sale in Tempe AZ.
A mate in Melbourne has a Mangusta,i don't think the engine bay would last long with a big HP engine.
Rats, I guess I need to go look at that Goose in Tempe.. Here is the Pushrod Ford V8 at Indy after a slight shunt. 1963 Edwardo Image Unavailable, Please Login
