On the front page of today's Detroit paper is Carroll Shelby sitting in an all-new 600 hp CONCEPT Shelby Cobra. While it's a concept Ford's design chief J Mays says "We showed the GT as a concept and we built it. We showed the Mustang and built it. We're showing the Cobra, and you can take it from there."

    No pics before tonight.

Are you serious? Ford is going retro on everything! Now we have:

    The new Ford GT
The new Mustang with the 60s look
    and now the Shelby!

It looks like Ford stretched the 350Z. Can Ford not come up with an orginal design? Everything has to be retro or copied from other successful platforms.

Well, it looks horrible... Just my opinion, of course and i would need to see the car in person before making an official decision... Ford never ceases to amaze me...

    Jim, how'd you get pictures...?

Looks like a 60s Cobra with all the "sex" taken out of it. Where did all those sexy curves go?

Don't forget the T-bird. Ford's design team is probably the most homogenous mix of people of any auto design team: all graying babyboomers who listen to "oldies" and reminisce about hanging out in the malt shop after school. At least that's what their cars are saying about them. Move on, people! Some of us can't remember the 50's-60's because we weren't around then. Ford is hellbent on catering to that generation.

Oh yeah - that Cobra 350Z sucks.

That car is highly disappointing, to say the least. 600 hp does have a way of overcoming a lot of aesthetic objections, though. J. Mays should spend less time promoting himself in the media and more time developing new and interesting designs. He needs a new source of inspiration, or he should get out and turn the job over to someone with some new ideas. This retro thing at Ford has gone too far, although I like the new Lincoln Aviator concept. When Mays does do a new design, like the Ford 500, it's so bland it's laughable. At least he seems to be doing some good interior designs. The new F-150 is great, and Detroit really needs to upgrade their interiors. Perhaps there is hope yet.

That's DouBle-amputee 9. The rear seating gets smaller & smaller...

At first glance, it appears the Cobra commercial should play "It's hip to be square"
