The article and link: http://www.polkcountytoday.com/acc061310.html Exotic Car Crash Takes Life of Local Chiropractor, LIVINGSTON, June 13, 2010 - At approximately 1:30 am on June 13, 2010, a passer by on US-190 West noticed a turned over car in a field near the Old Mill Center on the east-bound side of 190. A call was placed to the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, multiple Units from the Livingston Police Department and the Sheriff's Office and DPS Troopers Kevin Burman, David Morris, and Sergeant Nita Bowen. Sadly, the EMS personnel were not needed as it was determined that the driver of the vehicle was deceased. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, evidence suggests that the car, a blue 2006 Ford GT, driven by Jay Workman, 44, of Livingston, was east-bound on US-190 West traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the road to the right, struck a culvert, and rolled end over end several times before coming to rest upside down in a field. Traffic on 190 was not blocked during investigation, recovery and cleanup. Jay Workman was a longtime local respected Chiropractor. Justice of the Peace David Johnson performed an inquest at the scene. Workman was the only person in the vehicle. Workman was loaded into a first call car from Cochran Funeral Home. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Workman's vehicle and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. The scene was cleared by 3:30 am. This is the second fatal accident in the last 3 days. There was another fatal accident on FM-2457 on June 10. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's not Austin, brudda,....that's my playground up by Lake Livingston......East Texas. East of the Causeway across the Lake, by the description....... I guess if he wants to "roll several times after hitting a culvert at 2AM", that's a good place to do it......there's been a real boom in Ice Houses and Biker Bars up there... Rest In Peace.
Polk County is the east shore of the Lake, and Cochran Funeral Home is in downtown Livingston. Really nice set of photos, actually.......how "Not to Park".........rear clip must be way back at the first point of impact. Polk County was 'dry' for many, many years.........had to have a Private Membership in a bar to drink..... That's changed now..... I still tend to stay on the West side though..... He must have been hauling azz............
RIP Looks like it could have been a survivable wreck. The passenger compartment stayed together and showed little distortion from being on the roof. I wonder if the driver had a heart-attack prior to the crash. Of course speed and the fact that the authorities believe that the vehicle overturned numerous times could have played a role. Sad indeed.
That's what I'm thinking too. But high speed and end over end, his head probably smashed the roof/glass multiple times and could have killed him.
Damn scary that is: We have a 190 in Dallas too. It also runs East bound and is a good place to go fast (I'm told ). And we have a fellow F-Chatter that has a car just like that. The OP is also local. I saw the picture, saw that it happened on 190, and was a little sick to my stomach until I realized it wasn't our friend.
Exactly the same thing here... I had to read the article a couple times... When you know so many ppl with special cars, I'm always hoping it's not someone I know. S
You know it's really heartbreaking. This is a guy that worked very hard to get where he was in life. This isn't a guy that found instant wealth or was born into it. He worked for his living and obviously shared a passion for cars very much the same as any Fchat member. Now guys and gals, I'm speaking as a person that is not only a new member to the Ferrari community, but as a person that has undergone over $250,000 worth of recent medical bills/procedures to put me back together again and be physically fit. I'm thankfully so... This could have been anyone of us guys or gals. Sure they'll say alcohol could have been a factor, but maybe it wasn't. And no matter what it's a guy that shares our interest that at 44yrs old, left a wife and child or children without a husband or a father. Not at all to trample over the deceased b/c that's not my intention, but I hear nothing good on the safety ratings on those GT's, but at high speeds of any kind, your survival rate drops with every MPH. Now I betcha dollars to donuts the DR's own words would be something along the lines of more a whoops that to do with just high speed alone... But fellow drivers remember while we are out there to have a blast, we also have families back home that want us there come morning. It's a sad loss and one most of us will never know the impact, but just remember that ever time you push those RPM's to 6500+. I'm so sorry for the family of the deceased and I pray a multitude of comfort and peace to beset them, although that is highly unlikely. Speed isn't the cause nor is the driver's inexperience as I'm sure, he knew what was going on...but there are always variables out there to change the game for us all. Be guarded in that thought and realize, it's not about your experience necessarily as much as it is those unknown variables. RIP... Livin the dream that very well may have been the nightmare. ...A genuine tragedy.
Often it's the deforming structures that absorb the impact forces and spare the occupant. Overly stiff structures that come out of crashes relatively intact usually leave the human occupants absorbing the forces...with tragic results.
+1. The GT will get away from you, but usually at the top of 1st and 2nd gear from wheelspin. No traction and stability control can get you into trouble. Very sorry for the family.
