Never driven one, probably never will, but there is a member on another board that raves about it, and his garage contains stuff like LF, F1 GTR, Porsche GT1. Seems like high praise for the car.

That said, I think the issue with the LFA was not the price or performance, but the fact that the car debuted in 2005 and had various other debuts in slightly different form over the next 5-6 years before it actually went on sale.

It was just kind of stale by that point. Think about that. The LFA concept was over a decade ago already. Took them way too long to get the car into production.

I really don't think Ford of Toyota are/were attempting to break into the exotic market. If they want to be in the exotic car business, they'll just go buy a brand. Toyota makes more in a quarter than Ferrari is even worth.

    Ya think?

When the last Ford GT first was available to order, I called my local Ford Dealer asking if I could get one.

The snotty nosed salesman basically said "who the hell are you?". Then the next words out of his mouth were exactly this

"Listen... if you aren't willing to offer more than 50K over MSRP, this conversation is over."

The conservation was over. You can make a super car but you still have to sell it through a Ford dealer.

I'm not defending Ferrari's "you gotta buy this FF and then I'll consider you" process either. It stinks as well.

But at least Ferrari is based on a long term model of making exotics in the future. For Ford, this is no different than spending money on a new TV commercial or putting their name up in the outfield of Yankee Stadium.

Its a PR stunt. They have no interest in this otherwise.

In LA when they were just about going into production.

I saw one at Monterey a couple of years before and liked it. I still do.

Yes, I think near the end they were going into production they were under MSRP but I had a new F430 spider at the time and that was good enough for me.

Interesting in that a lot of people thought the heritage editions "gaudy" and now they are worth more. Tastes change!

Why do you care what the purpose or meaning of the car is? It's a car. It means nothing. GT40, 250 GTO, McLaren F1, $25M Mercedes whatever -- all meaningless to life and especially the Universe.

    1. Decide if you want inanimate, meaningless object.
    2. Decide if you will do what's asked to acquire meaningless object (write check, can do a handstand + check, CEO blowjob + handstand + check, murder, etc)

If you don't want to do what the seller asks, then don't, but let's not try and pretend it matters or that you're being asked to do something immoral or degrading.

It's just like a million other things in life -- you pretend to give a **** or do something you actually don't want to so that you get what you want. Happens all the time and it's a result of human's being crazy and illogical and believing in crazy, illogical principles.

I signed up. It's a car I'd seriously want to drive on and off track. Chances seems like nil but never hurts to ask.

    Funny but I don't care.

I said this car and its application process was a PR stunt and people went ballistic.

    Not my fault.

It seems a lot of people care though.

Are you still mad at me that I said the 570s is beautiful, they will sell a lot of them, Ferrari needs to make the Dino to compete with it, and the best car McLaren has made? :)

I submitted my application yesterday. I do own a Ford GT but I don't have especially high hopes. That said, I am the kind of buyer they want (I have an F40 with 27k on the odo, for heavens sake) as I will drive it. I'll probably spec it out just like my 2005 car, too.

Even though I don't think that I would be selected, I think the application process is great. It's something different and a way to show the company why you should receive one. I applaud the innovative approach and I love that Ford is trying something new.

I'm just wondering why this entire thread is in the 458/488 forum, and not the general automotive...

IMHO there is nothing special about any road going ford. Never understood the whole mustang or GT thing. The new one has only half the cylinders of an actual exotic. To each their own.

Ford is perpetuating a big dog and pony show on the public, I seriously doubt they are concerned if people treat these cars as garage queens as it will just add to the bubble, something I suspect they want.

After all, would they be able to charge 400K for these things if it wasn't for the prior generation GT price movement?

Is the technology, build quality, performance worth $450K ? You can build a pretty loaded V12 Ferrari with that kind of money. IIRC, the last GT was about $150K. Wish I had one. Seems to me Ford's price of admission is a little bold on this car. I don't see the value other than its rareness....

"The conservation was over. You can make a super car but you still have to sell it through a Ford dealer."

While that was true for the 2005-2006 GT and it is unfortunately true for the GT350 and GT350Rs, it WILL NOT be true for the new Ford GT. There won't be an ADM, period. That's cool.

I'm not sure why the Mayor has his panties in a twist if Ford (or any other car company) wants to come along every 5, 10, or 20 years and show to the world that they have the right stuff. The 05-06 Ford GT is a great, great car and it just defies logic that Ford was able to pull a car like that off. Pretty cool. Can they do it again - some 10 years later with the new GT? I think so. (Could be wrong, but I wouldn't bet against them.) I'm not sure why you'd label that a "PR Stunt". Seems to try to minimize what Ford is accomplishing which is pretty damn incredible. The introduction of the new Ford GT helps this whole market which we are all so fond of.

As for the application process, a lot of your guys are making mountains out of molehills. Clearly, the GT is Ford's newest halo car. Ford, just like anyone else, would like to get the very most exposure possible for the car. Regarding the videos, yeah I agree with The Mayor insofar as any application will feel incomplete without them. BUT, like dbk has said, I wouldn't dream of putting myself in the video!

Don't overlook the fact this is Ford's 50 year anniversary of its 1-2-3 win at Le Mans in 1966. There is no Ferrari V12 racing at Le Mans. If Ford pulls off a win, the car will have its place in history (again).

this is sooooooo funny. SO, I state the obvious that Ford's doing a PR stunt for this car and everyone else has a brain hemorrhage of "outrage!"

I never said one thing BAD about this car. I stated that Ford is using it as a giant PR stunt, which is it. I didn't even say that was bad.

    Sorry if the truth hurts.

That's what I'd do, but I think most would read the category and do a selfie monologue. Preferably the driving video would be in an 2005-06 Ford GT. If I didn't have one (I don't), either borrow one or drive a Ferrari. A selfie monologue isn't going to cut it, I'd expect.

Is there some kind of credit check process during application to ensure the lucky winners can actually pay for the car ? I can imagine the case where a millenial social media hotshot gets a slot but still works at Starbucks....

This is a great point - not just a V12 Ferrari though. For $450k you could grab a Speciale and still have enough left over to buy a GT350 for rainy day duty. Bonus: That GT350 won't have an EcoBoost (turbo) 6-banger...nay, it's got a screamer of a flat plane crank NA V8.

The GT will be running alongside hypercars worth minimum 2x what its msrp is. I do not understand the hate from some of you guys. Competition is good...And in my opinion the new GT is worth every penny.

Also apparently Ford wants owners to drive the cars. That's the purpose of the application process. They do not want these cars to sit in a collection untouched as most do with cars of similar stature.

Maybe they will give you free maintenance if you drive the car at least 5000 miles per year.
