Yes; I know it's American, but its heritage was Anglo-American, and this question also involves the GT 40. Anyway ... 1) In FChat I have seen a number of snide Ford GT comments along the lines of, "was it on a tow truck", etc. Are these cars NFG, or is this some prancing horse chauvinism? 2) If anyone has driven both the GT 40 and the GT, I am curious which one would be faster around a short course (ex: Lime Rock) and a long course (ex: Road America). This should spark some interesting responses!
I have ZERO experience behind the wheel of either but IMO anyone who comments negatively on either of these cars is only showing their ignorance. Truly impressive vehicles to say the least. I for one have never ragged on anyone's cars or opinions, as afficionados we should know better. They are just pissing about the thrashing they'll never forget.
There is good natured ribbing and competition, a few take it past that point and it isnt respected or appreciated, and then some people just like to bash Ferrari owners based on stereotypes that we all act that way.
I know of two - one from Ferrari people here locally, one from another ZR-1 owner. Both seem to have been driven with enthusiasm and both seem to have been very reliable (especially by certain Ferrari model standards). That early stuff about rear seal, I believe, was taken care of by Ford. Perhaps Ferrari people still view this car a little like they would Count Dracula on a dark and rainy night - (due to some bad experiences at LeMans from 1966 to 1970 or so?)
I agree. You of all people can identify with the type of colored glasses people look through on this site but that has its charm and should almost be expected given the title. At least you know you have 1000s of supporters when you root for Ferrari here... In my experience the first new GT I saw driven was sadly on the side of the road (Chicago burbs) broken with rear suspension problems while I drove by in a Porsche. I admit bias at the time and thought of Le Mans type comparisons. Months before or later (man Im getting old) I talked to the owner of the Le Mans winning GT40 who claims it is by far and away his favorite of all time. A few fellow Fchatters can confirm his cool manner and I still recall with shock on comparing brands that he dumped, what would be an icon here, an F40 for its flaws. I personally like the Ford. Just this weekend I was told that the new Vette looks great while driving a Ferrari of all things and can recall how many times I was asked if that was a Mustang. You don't get that in a GT. And when I see a Heritage GT often on the weekends visiting my folks in their neighborhood, I also think it would crush my car. That should stand for something. I don't think it needs to be knocked at all.
Heres a fact Ferrari Lambo Ford GT Dodge Viper Corvette Lotus Nissan GT-R etc are all fantastic cars and anyone who cant recognize and appreciate ALL of them is , to be perfectly honest, ignorant.' They all serve their purpose wonderfully and none of them are really better than the other when you compare all factor such as price point, looks, performance and the all important personal preference.
I've driven mine around Lime Rock and while I enjoyed it a lot I still think it's better suited to long courses. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wasn't that car at No Problem Raceway in Louisiana about 5 years ago? Not on the track but next to a road-equipped Lola T70 (blue)? Great car!!! Is it the Sebring winner?
Look in the archives and you will find a number of posts predicting that '05 and '06 Ford GTs would depreciate like crazy due to high production numbers and lack of pedigree. It turns out those predictions were false and the GT retains a much higher percentage of its original price than similar vintage Ferraris. You can't blame afficianados of a certain brand for ribbing their competitors but, in the end, they are all great cars.
