this is from GT40s.com not sure who the source was, but it's interesting fat to chew. that's within striking distance of the McLaren F1's top speed..... doody.
For some reason I find it annoying that it's that fast.I have no desire to give ford credit for anything.Still way out of my price range and I'd rather have a 355 for that kind of money.

Given the price speculation by the dealers, even if you could afford one at MSRP, you couldn't afford one. It is a wonderful looking car though. Stunning in person. As mentioned below, it is *low* low to the ground - very aggressive. Interesting turn, when people complaining about Ferrari being preferential in inviting Enzo buyers only, to buy at MSRP, and then good ol' American Ford turns and lets their dealers invite anyone with unlimited price bidding and speculation. I can't decide what is more "fair."
My brother saw one on the road a mile from our house the other day. It was silver and of course, had manufacturer plates. He was VERY impressed with how good it looked on the road. I didn't realize it, but it's wider & lower than the 360. They're built at the Wixom plant, which is about 10 miles north of where I live. I recently saw an old friend who works at that plant and he said they'll be available in Aug or Sept. I asked how many will be produced and he said "not too many, just 3-4 per day". The initial demand on them is gonna be 360 like, but I doubt it will last nearly as long.
The Mclaren F1 has gone 240 MPH. I wouldn't call 212 striking distance. See here: http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/mainfr/gall.htm
Yesterday on Google.com, I saw a Ford GT advertised at $160,000. Go to Google, type in Ford GT + sale and it should come up. Also, about that top speed; I have to believe that if it has over 550 wheel hp, that it has the power to go beyond 212 mph. What changes would have to be made to allow it to go beyond 212 I don't know, but I'm confident somebody will have the Ford GT doing well in excess of 212 mph.
There's an article on Norwoods' website about getting that 288 framed car to go faster at Bonneville. It gave the formula for extra horsepower needed to increase speed - the curve is not linear but exponential - and beyond 200mph it takes a lot more power for every MPH beyond that to get faster and faster. I'm not saying over 212mph isn't possibly or likely, but it apparently does take a lot more to increase such high speeds - and not go airborne.
"The initial demand on them is gonna be 360 like." You're probably right. But I think they'll be readily available at MSRP within 6 months of introduction -- just like the Gallardo. They might even be "dealing" within a year.
Mod engine loves the boost. I wouldn't predict major problems. Certainly less than a high strung V10/V12...
More than thirty five years ago, the GT40 was doing well in excess of 230 mph. Despite the facts that it was more likely to go airborne than the Ford GT it did hit those speeds. Yes, the GT40 was three inches lower in height, and yes, it did weigh considerably less, but it did not produce as much hp as the Ford GT either. Time will tell, and I believe that the Ford GT will (without a great deal of time and money invested) be able to achieve at least 235 mph.
"well in excess of 230mph"? And how much power did it have? I've never heard of any sub 600hp "car" doing that speed.
i agree, it takes a tremendous amount of hp to go 230 mph... lets get real... also will a stock 500 hp really do a true 212mph without a sign tail wind? i want to see the test and the conditions the car was tested at... also until a true production is tested we dont know if ford is sending out a ringer with extra hp...
Yes,alot of speculation.Lets see the "real deal",and then we can compare it to the existing supercars.
550HP@crank is the rating for the GT....Ford does underrate the 4.6L SC V8, maybe they will do it with this engine? 212mph is pretty unbeliveable though, I wouldn't doubt 195mph though.
