Look what's stuck to the door jam.
That's funny. I would have thought that you'd decrease pressure because the heat generated by the higher speeds will increase tire pressure, which would make the tire bow out slightly and increase pressure on the sidewalls? Dale
So, when are you picking up your GT, Napolis? Surely you could lean on Ford to be sure you acquired one at MSRP to go with your GT40.
You know that, and I know that. I'm just surprised they didn't put that on the warning label. Unfortunately, some people that get one won't check their tires before every high speed run.
I'm with you on that. I check all the time. It makes a huge difference. That said if I were going over 200 I'd fill with nitrogen.
I always use nitrogen on my Silverstate runs tire failures the major cause of accidents on an open road race.
So what is the story on this car? They never sell on EBAY even at 70k over sticker! tHEY never MEET RESERVE. Aren't there any out there yet?
What you're looking for the the temperature. You can approximate that with the heat rises effect on the tire pressure, when you've warmed up the tires. I don't know, but would estimate that you want about 3 - 5 pounds more pressure, when the tire is fully warmed up. If the tire doesn't have enough air in it, the rise will be substantially more, causing heat to hurt the tire. Say if you're 5 pounds under recommended pressure, and you get 10 pounds more pressure, you can just guess how much warmer the tire has to get to increase the pressure to that level. More than the tire wants or needs.
Well, to be fair, he was trying to explain a complex thing. I understood what he meant. Be nice to him, his candidate is about to lose !!!!
teak360: For those of us who raced before they had digital heat sensors, we came to the right tire pressures by measuring the heat rise after the tires were warmed up (motorcycles). While not as accurate as the current technology allows, it worked just fine. Bottom line: low pressure equals more heat, bad for tires. If you need more of an explanation, PM me. I'd thought I'd made it clear, but who knows? Art
I was just giving him a hard time because of the word usage (sorry Art). His candidate may have lost, but George Bush sure couldn't have said it any more coherently!
