Are there any dealers for Ford GT's in Australia or does one need to import one?

Ford Australia has one, and that's the only one in Australia that I am aware of. If you want one, you'd have to bring it over yourself.

I would say he means the Ford GT (the new one isn't called the GT40).

Here is the one at the Perth Motor Show, probably the only interesting car there..... :(

Man that is a beautiful car, saw it at the Brisbane Motor Show.

A friend down in Melbourne was trying to tell me that her boss was getting one. I was trying to tell her that it was probably the BA GT but she kept saying that it was costing $500000 or something big so I figured it was a normal GT. I didn't think that any were in RHD because even the pommy versions a LHD.

when it first came out, Ford said it was going to be under 200k, and will expect about 10 cars coming into AUS, then after 4 month, it went from 200k to 400k, and Ford AUS said they will not import any into the country because of the potential impact on the current FPV range.

    yeah right.............

Well even though it has been touched on, I'll make the point again.

They are not made in RHD, thus, you want one here, you either never register it (or wait 30 years and then maybe register it), you pull a bit of a fast one with trade plates or temp rego (a'la an F40 we are all aware of), or you pay someone about 40-50k to get it changed to RHD and get it all approved under RAWS.

So in addition to what Kelsa said, it wasn't Ford Australia's decision, the bigwaig didn't give them a chance to sell it here. If Ford UK can't get a RHD version, no way would we have enough pull to get some.

Ford UK dont NEED a RHD conversion. LHD is no big deal in UK, either is fine.

Makes a mockery of Oz road laws.

We should petition for LHD to be made registerable (in cases where it is the only option, at least), using the UK as a case example.

I realise that, but if Ford US were even considering giving Australia a RHD GT, they would have automatically done it for the UK.

If they were going to give 10 to Oz in RHD, not way they would they have sent LHD to the UK.

That's my opinion anyway, I could be wrong.

And as far a petition goes, with RAWS and the details around it (and I'm sure you know this, but it is worth talking about), they made it HARDER for cars to come into the country (new ones at least) and especially LHD vehicles.

Screw the Ford GT, I just want Holden to get some RHD Corvette Z06's over here :D

    This is correct.
So hard is it to get your hands on one that Ford Australia had to buy it and import the car - no favours from dearborn.
The GT resides in the FPV/FPR mechandise showroom in Glenbarry road, Broadmeadows when it is not doing the Auto show circuit. Currently I think it is in Taiwan (?). It may be back for melbourne..not sure.

there are NO plans for a limited RHD run.

why would they? everywhere else in the world can drive LHD cars except for AUS.

I think they never wanted to sent the car to AUS from the very begining. there are only 15 also cars went to UK, 80% of GTs are in USA.

the dude in Seaford is playing with fire at the moment with his idea of bringing his beloved GT into the country. he might just make it and register the bloody thing with LHD.

Other countries in the world like the UK that except LHD, would be more the fact of the high tourist ratio that would just drive to the UK and visaversa. It be silly to have strict LHD when it would effect tourism. Here we dont get boat loads of cars daily so its not really in our culture.

Japan is a BIG carmarket and RHD, its strange they didnt market them as everyone here knows they love their Supercars and riced 1000bhp cars.

actually, all super cars in Japan are LHD, to be able to drive a LHD in Japan is for the rich and privileged, its a symbol for high social status and power. the only Asian country that uses RHD cars are Singapore, even they do allow LHD cars.

Again, I realise that, but I think you miss what I was trying to say.

If Ford US were going to even consider making a RHD version, don't you think that Ford UK would have pushed to get that version instead of selling a LHD version?

Whilst either are legal, I'm sure they would prefer to sell in the correct configuration. Again, I could be wrong though, ut that is what I would imagine.
