Though I thought I knew all about GT40s but cruising the net, I found this article and realize that it had eluded me that the AMGT40/1, Alan Mann car with aluminum body, had been found and restored.
Apparently H & M had rebodied it as a Mk.II though it was originally a small block and had a road accident with it.
Does anyone who know who found it? And when? And how bad it was hit?
Here's an article showing the car now. I wonder if the alloy body was heavy enough so it wouldn't dent if you even breathed on it?

PS did this car have a GT40 SN before it had an Alan Mann serial number? I thought there was some cars renumbered back in the day but maybe I am thinking of Mirages renumbered so they could race again as GT40s. Maybe since they were alloy hulled as well as alloy bodied they had their own separate numbers.

    I did not know this.

I still own a 2005 Ford Gt that I bought new. It drives as good as it looks. I will never sell it.

I think that article is from 2004 - there's more up to date info at gt40s.com which suggests it was nearly complete about a year ago !

This racing GT40 was shipped directly to Alan Mann Racing. The serial number was assigned at Alan Mann. It has never been changed or renumbered. (no GT40P number) The body sections were not replaced at H-M.
