The number was 60 Million on the GT 40 program 12 Million on the MK-IV's. Enzo was the one who suggested that the road cars be called Ford-Ferrari and the race cars called Ferrari-Ford. The sale price was 18MM and Enzo was happy to sell. He didn't give a rats ass about the road cars. The sticking point was Indy. Enzo wanted control over Fords racing efforts at Indy and Ford said Ciao. Enzo told Ford Ford no problem but by then The Duce was bored with him and sent his note: "Not Interested".

    FIAT saved Ferrari.

The distance the MK-IV beat the P4 was measured in miles (35). Ferrari hasn't won Le Mans since 1965.

Fiat S.P.A. (the umbrella corporation) owns both Ferrari and Fiat Motors which run independent from each other. All 3 are Italian companies.

Therefore: Ferrari is NOT controlled by Fiat Motors.

(to the original poster, Ferrari has NO relationship with Ford, the American company)

Enzo was definitely interested. He approached Ford first through Ford of Germany.

Not meaning to take this thread in another direction, but I know there are a lot of gutar players on the board. I'm sure that I had read somewhere that Ford offered Ferrari $10 milion to purchase the compnay. I understand that about the same time CBS offered Leo Fender $10 million for his company. Correct me if I'm off the mark. I found it interesting that a car company and a guitar company would be valued about the same. I would have expected the car manufacturer to be worth more - thinking machinery etc.. Apparently not.

Enzo Ferrari and Leo Fender struck me us being much the same - technically strong but not academically schooled, visionaries. Both created remarkable products, perhaps not the most sophisticated but could do what they were supposed to do. Of course, Fender sold and a whole mystic grew about "pre-CBS" products. I also find it interesting that today, both names are as much about branding and product.

At least Honda has a race win and a second place in the WCC to their credit. Toyota has spent every dollar Honda has since entering f1 with no wins to show for it. What is their best finish in the WCC?

Does anyone know if there is a part 3 to this? At the end of part 2 it sounds like there might be, but I can't find it anywhere. Any help is appreciated.

The site which conducted the interview also has a banner to win a ride in P4/5, but won't let me click on it to enter, does this mean I already won? :)

A very interesting and informative posts, I enjoyed it.

The way things are looking today, when all is said and done, FIAT S.p.a., may wind up owning FORD MOTOR COMPANY, and GM also, buying them with the 2 Billion Dollars, GM gave them, when their deal with FIAT, terminated! It seems that there are those in Congress, who don't see saving our Domestic Auto Manufacturers, to have them continue to squander money, on cars nobody wants to buy. Let them fail and new companies will emerge from the ashes, that will succeed.

Scares the daylights out of me, BIGTIME!!!

OH YES!!! The Deutsches Bank, just stated, that GM Stock is WORTHLESS! FORD, is in better shape, but not by much.

    Ciao...Paolo

Huge money, yes, but remember the volume of equipment Ford was building. Not just cars, but farm tractors, over the road trucks and heavy equipment, $2 billion wasnt a lot of money. Besides, they offset taxes by calling it advertising. Maybe some can recall the Chevy Monza? That car was to have a rotary (Wankel) engine, and GM supposedly blew over $2 Billion on that project. At least Ford constructed over 130 cars with their money, GM built nothing. All I know is the $2 billion dollar number came out of Carrol Shelby's mouth, so argue with him over it. He had incredibly close ties with Ford in that era, if anyone would know, he should.

I flipped a coin on who to pick on and Honda won (lost). I agree Toyota is throwing untold bushels of money at the sport and not having success that one would expect.
