I get that some people buy a lot of cars and maybe they deserve to get at the head of the list but what I really do not understand is why someone would buy a 300k car that they don't want just so they can get higher on a list that they have no control over ... 812VS despite the fact that I have owned maybe 11 or 12 Ferraris over the last 11 years and keep 4 or so in my garage...

This isnt unique to Ferrari or car collecting. This is exactly what is happening in other industries whether you want a 5711 Nautilus or a Birkin bag. You want that Nautilus at MSRP for $30k? No problem, buy $400k worth of these other Patek Philippe watches you don’t want to get on our list and take delivery within a year. Anything short of that and you just never get the call.
