Kimi splits the Red Bulls, then the 2 Mercedes, then ALO! Apparently Vettel didn't get any good runs for single laps, traffic, so no big deal. MAG in 9th and GRO in 13th still fighting in the mid pack with McLaren, Renault, and looks like Force India joining the bunch in Baku.
Think is, last year every practice we almost had merc on top...this year nowhere near that!! Perhaps there is real hope after all!
Assuming Mercedes turn up their engines in Qualifying, and Vettel just had a bad lapping session in P2, looks like race day gives us the top three with 6 cars fighting, and then everyone else up for grabs a second per lap down. With softer tires than last year in Baku, throw in a certain safety car this weekend, and I think we get a re-run of China with some interesting battles going on for the entire race.
I don’t think Merc turning the engine up will change things. On paper, this looks like a RBR vs Ferrari battle with Merc a step behind. Safety cars and other similar disruptions will be a bigger factor than Merc’s engine mode. The car is rubbish on softer tires. It has been since testing
