I still think that if Ferrari had put Seb on a new set of super-softs with about 15 laps to go, he would have been able to catch and overtake the Mercedes in front of him. Worn mediums would have been no match for fresh super-softs.

(And I'm guessing that was what the original strategy was.)

The mechanics name is Francesco Cigarini

He does have a twitter page for those of you who would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

Poor guy. I've had a couple broken limbs, not fun at all. I'm sure Ferrari has very very good doctors so I'm sure he can recover fully.

I knew this was coming.... Lewis did not in from pole so his fans have to find another reason why he was the greatest...
So he came from 9th to third by doing nothing but overtaking under DRS so the question remains why he was the greatest.. so one have to hype the DRS overtaking because it looked a little bit more exciting than the normal pass although the three were busy with each other making it even easier. Well the group LH44 will always find a reason why it was so special although it was not him closing in on Seb but his team mate...

And of course, it wasn’t even ninth to third really, two of those above him dropped out while ahead, so he passed overall just four, all much slower cars than the Mercedes, not a single ferrari or Mercedes. Big deal

That looked like a completely broken leg. Its good they didn't replay it again. Ferrari has some explaining to do. This should have never happened with a car that leaves the pit without even changing one tire.

Actually, three tires were changed; the left rear was never taken off before KR left the pit...

I did appreciate the fewer commercial breaks this race, but it's only because ESPN got such a killer deal that it can offer exclusive promotion and reduce the number of breaks. The SKY broadcasters talk very fast (especially Di Resta) and can be hard to understand. They seems more serious to me, maybe its just more "British". I miss the after race wrap up and driver interviews from those that don't make the podium. It's like they now only show just what they have to. Some thought it was idiotic, but I miss the comic relief that David Hobbs provided too.

I'm just happy Ferrari are so far, keeping Mercedes at bay. I hope Kimi's luck turns around, they need both cars to wrestle back both titles.

I did not see Lauda, Schumacher, Prost or Senna in the race. To "one of the best" are you referring may I ask? :)

+1. I kept thinking it wouldn’t have been that close had they put mediums on Seb’s car.

"He's one of the greats. He was pretty good before," said Brawn, who was team principal when Hamilton joined Mercedes nearly five years ago.

"You've got to say he's one of the greats comparable with any of the iconic characters in Formula 1. He made hard work of it [in Mexico], but apart from that he's been exemplary all year."

This is coming from Ross Brawn who worked with both Schumacher & Hamilton. So unless you are in a higher position than Brawn in the F1 ladder I will have to take Brawn words over yours

I was more interest in Haas and Torro Rosso....they could be fighting it out for fourth in the title. Magnussen didn't overwhelm me....but he did the job when it was needed. Grosjean seemed relegated to R&D and unable to move up. Torro Rosso was on fire. McLaren and Alonzo must be dying inside. I wonder how many races Williams has to suffer through to meet their commitment to their two inadequate drivers. I'd rather see Kubica jump ship and become number three at Sauber or Renault or Torro Rosso.

This young man had the drive of the season...so far. What are McLaren thinking about their new PU? The last 15 laps of the race he was lapping on par with Lewis.

Now we have to see if Gasly's performance was a flash in the pan or whether he really is that good. The last two times Toro Rosso drivers put in a performance like that, they were eventually elevated to the "senior" team. Their names were Vettel and Verstappen.

I wonder if Honda is risking performance over reliability.....only time will tell; Gasly has impressed so far. Liked him in F2.

Correction: ONE STR was on fire...the other was the last car across the line.

I’m betting that McLaren is optimistic: third in the WCC, both cars finished and finished in the points, and they are not on a one engine per race usage average. Gasly had a great race, but he really simply held station...if the Honda starts to require “strategic penalties” those fourth place finishes will be distant memories.

I’m sure every team is quite aware that it’s the second race of a very long season. Everybody from fourth place back benefitted from three DNFs...two of which should not have happened. Is McLaren going to stay ahead of RBR? Highly unlikely. Is STR going to consistently qualify well AND avoid grid penalties? Highly unlikely.

Hmmm..... For me it's a close call between Gasly's superb drive today, and Seb miraculously making a one stop work on tyres that were completely worn out with 10 laps left to go.

3 big names failing to finish did help of course... He had a great weekend though, and would've been solidly in the points even if the others finished.
