You are right regarding Melbourne being an ''odd track'' and not being completely representative.
+1 It's clear, yet again, that party mode they've enjoyed since 2014 completely ruins saturdays. Zero competition. Why allow it? It's completely counter productive to what they're (surely) trying to achieve. Ferrari, Red Bull got neutered at every opportunity when they where fastest, yet with Mercedes they do absolutely nothing? How many times did the FIA change the wing weights regulation to try and slow Red Bull down....yet all they have to do here is ban certain engine modes. Can't be rocket science.

Right. When Ferrari was winning (with mostly Schumi) they went so far as to change the qualifying among other changes aimed directly at them and they weren't even this dominant in qualifying!

Not to mention the start on testing bans. Ferrari did have the advantage of Fiorano and Mugello, which they invested in over time, but now who the he-- knows how much Merc have spent on simulators and dynamic test benches for their engines.

    Exactly.

They go through around 100 engines per season just on the bench alone finding the limits. 100! At 1.5m a pop. It's killing competition, and has done for 4 years now. Why do they not do something? Last year of all things, they took Ferrari's toys away, the only ones that could challenge Mercedes at all.

Nothing will be done as liberty scared Mercedes could walk then no engines for Williams or Force India, single engine map would resolve.

Ferrari, Renault and Honda could easily supply. If Liberty/FIA are so scared of upsetting one team it's lost. Call their bluff.

They planned their assault on F1 like a military mission with military level of spending, including setting up to make their own turbochargers(!!) and spent tons of money (years in advance, so under the radar) on creating a PU that nobody could touch because of stupid homologation rules.

So now we have these talking heads like that idiot Lauda pretending they are f'ing geniuses and everyone else are incompetents.

    100% on the money.

Nothing clever when the rest of the field aren't allowed to compete or develop properly.

Ok, new season, no grid girls, cars still sound horrible, I find myself looking at that freak’in HALO instead of the overall car, and the commentators are putting me to sleep. Won’t be watching many races me thinks.

The party mode - I thought that rule had been changed so that all Merc customers are getting the same engines and access to all modes including party mode. Is that not the case?

Better believe the FIA will step in and advise teams they are allowed 1, maybe 2 engines modes at all times. it's coming

There was once a best-seller whose title aptly describes the Mercedes team mood at the beginning and end of Q3: "The Agony and the Ecstasy"!

Looking at the grid, if Bottas hadn't made his gaffe, and if Ricciardo didn't have his penalty, there was a possibility of another "Noah's Ark" grid, with the teams 2 by 2 all the way down to 12th place.

I know it was a remarkable lap! Hamilton can keep the car on the edge like no one else. Bottas could not even get it out of the second corner without binning it!

Good job for Kimi too! I think he's tired of playing number two and has nothing to lose so I predict there will be lots of this happening this season.

One lucky season in 20 a challenge does not one make. How many Merc PU's have died during its first race? 1 and when Hamilton and had a huge lead over the field and was going to win easily. Luck wasn't on Hamilton's side in 2016 but that still doesn't make Brittini a threat lol!

FIA didn't even try to hide how anti Ferrari they are. MB would have been a lot slower if they got hit with the same number of development bans that Ferrari did.
