SKY showed how they are stalling the floor and running the car lower at speed on the straights. Yields good performance is fast corners as well. Toto said this has been something they have been doing. Not completely new. The higher rake RedBull has no real counter and cannot run as low I hear. Crazy stuff it is lol.

    VIA SKY F1 -

"It's really good," says Toto Wolff of Mercedes' early advantage. "I think we are gaining on the straights and that is good but the main gains when you look at the speed trace with Verstappen is through the fast corners.

Softs are getting very worn quickly in this circuit. Mediums are the best for the race or hard compound. Too hot.

SKY showed and clearly its the floor and its immediate affect. Its not the motor. They may be running it hard but its aero and better balance as well in the corners. Downforce is adequate as well.

Nice to see fast cars no rain. But those tires it appears. Tire management, tire management for this race.

Looks like RB have finally given Perez the same car as Max, they realise they need him in this title fight.

I'm hearing more about it now. I was basing my thoughts off of seeing the cars sliding on the track, but clearly there is an advantage they are enjoying here

Seems a bit of difference now in this session. Redbull made some adjustments or turned up the power. Longer runs will be interesting.

interviewing Logan Sargent as the next Great American Hope (assuming the Andretti thing falls apart and Colton stays in Indycar?)

Logan's a quick driver, but nobody in America knows who he is. like Rossi before he went to Indycar.

Hard to tell. Hamilton had the 1:34.6 that was deleted, so that would be leading the timesheets. Sounds like he may have issues with his car though.

Nothing is ever certain....as Murray Walker used to say "Anything can happen in Formula 1, and it usually does"

Poor showing from Hamilton in FP2, how many times has he made changes that have made the car worse, not good enough for a driver with his experience.

    From Scarbs

As the rear compresses, the rear heave gas spring resists the force to keep the rear end propped up. At a predetermined speed, the load on the gas spring opens a valve, collapsing the rear to lower it and stall it.

Hysteresis in the valve keeps it collapsed despite the reduction in downforce. Only at much lower speeds (braking) does the gas spring reset to normal ride height. . This tech has be talked about in the teams/FIA Tech Working Group, but always was agreed to be retained.

Altho this is now old tech, as I pointed out Merc did exhibit more extreme collapsing in Turkey. Running nearly flat in fast sections, while riding back up to their higher rake settings in the slow/mid speed sections.

Mercedes dismisses Red Bull "noise" on F1 straightline device

Mercedes Formula 1 team boss Toto Wolff has downplayed speculation from Red Bull that his team is employing a trick device to increase straightline speed.

What did he do? I know he had the fastest lap, but it was deleted due to exceeding track limits. At the end of the day, they only need to have an idea of how quickly they can complete a lap. I don't think they care if Hamilton's name is atop the sheet in FP2.
