Happy Race Day Miami GP! - Hopefully a good race. Drivers with concerns. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/perez-brands-miami-track-surface-a-joke-as-drivers-fear-poor-race/10301107/ Perez brands Miami track surface “a joke” as drivers fear poor race Formula 1 drivers have criticised the surface of the new Miami GP track, leading to Red Bull driver Sergio Perez calling it “a joke.” Throughout practice and qualifying drivers found that there is no grip if they stray off the rubbered-in racing line. The consensus is that the prospect of an entertaining race will be compromised because drivers cannot move off line to attempt a pass. “I think most importantly the surface is a joke,” said Perez when asked by Autosport if there will be any passing in the race. “Tomorrow the racing is going be difficult. And you're going to have the drivers making mistakes because we've been put into this situation.” In addition to Perez's comments, Fernando Alonso said that the track surface was “not F1 standards”, while Lando Norris suggested that it was “not good enough.” Alonso revealed that the subject had been discussed in Friday night’s drivers’ briefing, and that the lack of grip had not improved on Saturday. “It's still very difficult to go offline,” he said. “There's like rubble out of line, so it's going to be difficult. We said yesterday that the track, the tarmac, is not F1 standards. “Nothing we can do. I think this weekend we need to put the show, but this has to change for next year. It's very difficult to race like this.”
I hope the race will be good but doubt it, because of the aforementioned reasons. I think the track layout has potential but needs changing for next year. For starters the hideous turn 14 and 15 need to be removed altogether and straightlined into T16. Add a banking into T1, T7 and T12m and it would actually be a pretty damn good track. But the way it is now? No thanks. Also seems a lot of people there in the more expensive seats are literally there so they can tell their buddies they're at the F1, but actually have zero interest in it. During quali yesterday the pool was full of people. Whilst I think the addition of a nice pool is great, especially for a place as hot as Miami...surely they can take an hour away from the pool when the F1 is on?! Plenty of time in between sessions to enjoy the pool...more a criticism of some of the people there rather than the organization. lol.
I never understood that. When I go to a race, I don't care what series it is I don't miss a session. Yet, around me the stands are empty except for maybe 50% full in qual and packed for the race.
^^^ The talk of ticket prices in Miami reminded me my Ontario F1 pals have their seats for sale in Montreal. I know their seats well. Aisle in the apex at Senna, section 12, lower, unobscured view all the way down the straight. Face value and can be sent electronically apparently. Let me know and don’t shoot the messenger if they’re gone. Back to Miami….
Yes lets see who draws the first safety car - then the rush to change tires etc etc. Many unkowns for today!
That's the new "clientele" around F1 nowadays. More interested in taking selfies than trying to understand what's going on. Many completement ignorant about F1, making stupid comments and asking silly question. The same lot who pay exhorbitant prices for a seat in Centre Court during the Wimbledon Tournament, hoping to be seen on TV, but don't have a clue about tennis.
Lewis has stated, " I get an exemption here, I'll get an exemption the rest of the year." Lewis has made it clear that he has no intention of fully complying with the 2005 rule regarding jewelry.
someone has to start a bingo board... Clueless celeb interview First crash/safety car how many gallons of fake water in the marina etc.
And still no wing protest against Merc? The privileged have arrived on the scene. Kick them to the back of the grid. I’m trying to be somewhat civilized towards them. But it’s gonna be difficult.
USA TV coverage starts with the pre-race at 2pm eastern with lights out at 3:30pm eastern all on ABC.
agree Any celeb attending and there to promote themselves should by law name at least 5 drivers or we get the right to throw rotten eggs at them.
The FIA came to an agreement with him to give him 2 races to remove the ones he can't do on his own. If he really did say what you just wrote and intends to keep jewelry on...well, let the FIA throw him out of the race then. Personally? If the car doesn't improve it's a win-win for him. Easy way to get out ("clearly, they don't want me in their sport any more" it'll be marketed as). And he doesn't have to drive his car anymore.
