Yep. This race had: No Yellow flags No Red flags No VSC No SC No Retirements No Errors in the pits And ALL cars did 1140 flawless laps.
It's maybe why some found the race boring and call it a snoozefest; it didn't have the interruption they expected. The drivers held/gain or lost positions according to their hability, and without outside interference to manipulate the order.
This is true. I felt that way for sure. It’s a sad day for the sport when the only way to get a ‘good’ or ‘interesting’ race is due to manipulation tactics like red flags, vsc, sc etc. but that’s the way it is right now. Not great.
Just not convinced other personnel, whoever that may be, would know the pre race data collected by Verstappen's race engineer apart from the heirachy in RB.
I dont have the tyre data to make that call but it certainly worked for Verstappen and with the quicker car by a long way he would have been easy for Perez to re-take any place lost from the outset. The fact is the RB19 is by far the best car on the track and the team knew full well Perez would be a sitting duck for Verstappen (on the quicker tyre and low fuel) come the latter stages of the race. All the others chose the strategy for their cars and the scrabble to collect 3rd place or a faint but brief chance of snatching the lead at some point. For me you cannot predict or plot Safety car events into a race plan with absolute certainty, as MV found out in Baku, they are a bonus if the cards fall in your favour.
Max took the greatest gamble then given your possible outcomes i.e.safety car, vsc, red flags or yellow flags. It's good to Monday quarterback knowing these issues exist right? Perez was and is a sitting duck when Max is 10 car lengths behind with no issues in the race.
These engineers are highly intelligent and have plenty of data on not just their own cars but the rest as well. Max and his engineer took the strategy plan to the strategists before the race, as in, open to be shared. Verstappen and engineer took Miami F1 hard tyre plan to strategists (motorsport.com) Perez is driving the same RB19. Max still had to make his way past 8 other cars. The middle stint, when Max was on old hards and Perez on brand new ones...Max was still lapping faster lap after lap. Same fuel load, both in clear air. The odds at that moment where clearly in Perez's favour but he was simply driving too slow.
Perhaps you should re-examine your lap time schedule you kindly posted. Verstappen on the hard tyre was quicker & in traffic in the first stint up to Perez who was on the meduim Lap 22 -48 Perez quicker on the hard tyre Lap 48 to the flag Verstappen quicker on the medium. lower fuel.
That article could use some facts and town down the ridiculous statements! Yes at the track the hats were $90, but the average fan food stops were NOT selling expensive Waygu or anything like that. For a major league sports/concert event, the average food and beer was way cheaper than I've had at Madison Square Garden for concerts. On the other hand, the stands had $150 Aston Martin polo shirts, so I'm guessing that was more of the team shirt than the usual fan polo for $100.
Really, I wonder if Perez and race engineer had a cunning plan. Horner possibly said leave it on my desk, I'll take a look at it later. Sorry - I dont buy it, it was a very well executed plan by RB which did no favours to Perez except come in 2nd. BTW - Verstappen was not quicker overall than Perez in the middle stint, for the first 10 laps Perez was quicker on new hard tyres but as the fuel load came down he gradually conceded track time. Which proves the point that the hard tyre was the best choice with high fuel load but worse at the end on low fuel........and they knew it from the outset.
but Perez was still slower than max who was on really old hard tyres vs perez on barely used hards. Sorry, that makes no sense that Perez at that moment was any slower. Sorry, but I'm going with the independent ex f1 strategist source, the ex RB engineer, horner and Perez on this one. Also, regarding the earlier point that Perez "got no info during the race", this turned out to be a falsity from Sky F1 as well...he got info on what was happening, and Max was doing...every damn lap.
To me the issue is happened with the cooler temp and the rain washing out the track. With that premise, Perez could not attack with the mediums from the start, and that with high fuel load. With clean air, he had to take advantage, but those two facts did not help him. He needed to build at least 5 to 10 seconds gap. With the hards, they were more or less even. The gap stayed around 17-18 seconds for a while, before Max pitted. Then he had massive advantage with the mediums.
Page 14, post #330. Max gained time against Perez from lap 18 to lap 42 and built an 18+ sec gap before pitting to mediums and beating Perez.
No need to say sorry Bas, you have your point of view and so do I. I must of been dreaming when it came across the radio Curious - why do you mix first and surname when talking about the 2 drivers in question i.e Max...Perez?
no idea, just whatever is quicker to write I guess? Yeah fully respect different differences of opinion etc. Regarding the radio, we only hear a fraction of what Liberty "allows" us to hear (they love to stir the pot). Anthony Dadidson (uncharacterizable) poured fuel on the fire by saying on the life broadcast that Perez got no info...see below the full video how completely false that statement was. ESPNF1.com Alpine F1 boss Laurent Rossi warns of 'consequences' of failure "The team managed to get fourth [in 2022]. They have the means to get fourth, more so than others. I want them to be fourth. If they don't, it's going to be a failure," Rossi told F1. "If they fail by giving 500% best and turning this ship around, there will be extenuating circumstances and it bodes well for the future. "If not, it's the rule of business, there's going to be consequences. And I won't wait until the end of the year. The trajectory is not good. We need to fix the mindset of the team ASAP," the Frenchman added. Rossi made clear that Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer, who joined in February 2022 from Aston Martin, was in the hot seat.
It looks like Renault (sorry Alpine) is becoming like Ferrari. Now, because the team doesn reach the arbitrary target he set for it, CEO Laurent Rossi starts to spit feathers,. His tactic to motivate the team is to crack the whip and issue threats. We will see if that works. Although he accused them of "dilettantism", Rossi has already said that the drivers are not the problem; but they probably are. The temperamental Ocon has been problematic at Racing Point before, and Gasly is irregular and not focused enough, IMO. But it's the combination of these 2 which is problematic to manage. The car itself is just mid-field material. Rossi has found a convenient fuse in Otmar Szafnauer who has been issued a warning. Will he survive the cull ? Szafnauer led Force India for year and brought his experience at Alpine, but that may not be enough to turn it around.
There's been a massive amount of backlash on social media regarding all the Miami pricing. The official Instagram page had to constantly create new ads because they were all getting spammed by comments saying what a "ripoff" it was. Then there's all the cringe videos about the fake marina and stupid driver intros. Lol, even the drivers themselves hated it. Lol, Miami just being Miami! Hopefully Vegas isn't as bad but I don't have a lot of faith in Liberty. Is COTA this way? The amount of F1 fans that think America is ruining F1 with all this nonsense and douchery is staggering. I honestly can't say they are wrong. I get what Liberty is trying to accomplish by making it a lifestyle event instead of just a race but IMO that is a shortsighted goal that won't work long term. The type of people they are catering to now will only be involved for a few years at most until the "next" big thing comes along for them to prance around and pose at. Sad considering it's in my backyard.
I am wondering if many US residents can afford to attend the 3 GPs held in their country. Maybe Liberty aimed too high, maybe not. Time will tell.
I'm not sure sure the issue is being able to afford it as much as it is value. I can spend the money to go to Miami or Vegas but IMO the value just isn't there compared to other venues like Monza, Spa or even Canada. I'd rather spend more and fly in. There is something to be said about seeing a race in a gorgeous, purpose built location with history vs. a parking lot. Lol, I had free tickets to Miami and still chose to stay home. Granted most of my reasoning is because I have little tolerance for the Miami **** show but it's also the fact that I don't want to watch a boring track built on a parking lot with limited viewing. Monza spoiled me I guess.
Temporary street circuits will never have the same attraction as permanent historic tracks, I agree. But Liberty is also at risk of losing F1 fans with high ticket prices, and discouraging traditional venues to hold GPs with the exorbitant fees it demands. Germany and France have given up organising a GP, and Britain could be next. The rest of Europe, where the F1 fanbase was, can just afford it. Only North America, the Middle-East and the Far-East can still manage it
