Actually Ferrari were ahead in Sochi practices and Abu Dhabi. Merc appears to have taken a step forward...we'll see if the Scuderia can respond.

We'll see where things go. Remember that it was the Scuderia challenging Merc's & RBR's suspension systems that helped level the playing field. Perhaps Merc has found a work-around?

Call yourselves fans? Best give up the sport. You'll all end up having heart attacks.

Seriously, one day of practice and folk are already declaring the end of the world and the continuation of Merc domination. Ridiculous.

Ferrari are not out of this. Not even close. Relax and take a chill pill. Have a beer. It's Friday!

T wing, new diffuser, bargeboards...it's not the end of the world. Ferrari is still slower than their pace in winter testing so there's a lot of pace to be shown tomorrow.

That said, Mercedes has brought a huge upgrade today. I wouldn't be surprised to see them on the front row, nor that we should be considering Sochi was only the second time in the hybrid era no Mercedes car was on the front row.

I will be rooting hard for Ferrari obviously. Just a realist. I'm happy to take bets.

Schumacher 96-98 put in some many epic drives in a car so much worse than his competition

Yep. He's done quite a few special drives in the wet...especially around that time. Spa 97, for instance was just stupid. race starts at end of lap 4 (safety car out for the first laps so people could feel the grip), he leads by end of lap 6...6 laps later hes a MINUTE ahead. A MINUTE! People often quote Senna in Donnington '93 as the best ever drive in the wet...but I'm sorry, Schumacher Spa 1997 has that beaten quite comfortably. Senna went from 4th till 1st, on the opening lap...certainly impressive but 1) it's an opening lap, reasonable to expect some where just more hesitant and feel where the grip is 2) people often forget the other Brazilian, Barrichello...he went from 12th to 4th on the same lap!

Schumacher backed off and went for a leisurely cruise after he managed that minute. It must've been his longest ever race for him, wondering why everyone was dead slow. Had he continued that pace surely he'd have lapped everyone multiple times, even anyone that finished 2nd.

I wonder if Ferrari are playing some mind games here. I have a feeling they are, and Kimi will steal the win tomorrow. They dominated during testing, and they are on a roll here. Merc dominated the Aussie practice too. Ferrari won in the end.
