I'm reluctant to believe the bias theories - maybe that makes me a sucker - but I also see how one could honestly believe them. I've called the current formula Formula Mercedes before, and maybe I was only half joking.

More directly to the point, though, THE CURRENT FORMULA SUCKS!

As our departed friend FastIan used to day, it all depends on whose ox is being gored. I recall reading similar sentiments at the height of the Schumacher/Ferrari dominance around 2005. People on THIS site were complaining at how boring the races were with Schuey winning all the time.

I think it’s safe to say that if one team wins a significant majority of the races, people will not like it. My only issue for this season is that I think it was a great one up to the point Ferrari started pissing away the WDC with mistakes. Cars are faster than ever (still sound like crap though) and the two most historic marques were going head to head.

That’s what we all want to see every season.

Ferrari just needs to be ruthless and mean. They should have protested (possibly Renault joining in) a long time ago about these rims; like since day one when they first were introduced.

Mercedes does "fake" pit stops during the race and even at times during these fake pit stops MB has their pit crew so outside their pit entry that a Ferrari driver has to drive around the pit crew just to enter the Ferrari pit lane. MB is rutheless. Ferrari needs to be as well.

Ah I see, well I never had you down as a H hater. but you already knew that, but still It hasn't escaped my attention that you seem to have more in common with the like minded folk in the Aussie section, it appears to be a very popular place to be of late/..
So maybe it's that association that's breeding your Hamilton contempt. ;)

So why do you like a post that calls me a hater??? Does not make sense....
I have no contempt for Lewis but I have contempt to your guys double standards and the constant degradation of other people´s opinion to hate, jealousy or racism while expecting tolerance and be taken serious. And just to proof that you just talk down those in an entire section just because they are not in the mood to read the constant Lewis-drivel anymore. Soon you have the F1 forum for yourself and then you can really be proud of your achievements...
You guys contradict yourselves so often and never post when Lewis did anything wrong, only when he did something right, and then you blow it up like he just reinvented F1...

F1 is a serious business, otherwise how would you explain the hundreds of millions invested by the teams? I can’t remember ever anyone claiming they were in it for fun

Pete is a valued poster and regularly makes allowances for Elton and Mercedes that the more vociferous of us, like ME, wouldn’t dream of letting get in the way of a chance to knock him. I have never seen you or any other Elton fan make such thoughtful or accurate posts as Pete does on a regular basis

Yep, their regular use of dummy pit stops is written in the rules as illegal, yet Charlie has yet to even threaten sanction, let alone issue one. Yet another example of blatant cheating and bringing the sport into disrepute.

    Albeit from 2015:
Formula 1's sporting regulations are a little vague on this subject, so it may be a stretch to say Mercedes broke a hard-and-fast rule.

    Here's the rule in question:

    • 23.11 Team personnel are only allowed in the pit lane immediately before they are required to work on a car and must withdraw as soon as the work is complete.
Is it possible to hang a penalty on this, especially as it's so hard to prove intent? It certainly appears to be a grey area and one open to interpretation by the race stewards.

It would seem Mercedes gambled and got lucky.

But surely this sort of thing has always gone on?
Of course it has. It's all in the game.

Two teams battling for victory in one of the most pressured environments in world sport? You'd be more surprised if these guys didn't push the boundaries of what's legal every now and then.

Ferrari and McLaren routinely engaged in such tactics during their epic battles in the late 1990s and early 2000s, to take just one example.

It was a part of the game then, it is part of the game now.

Formula 1 would be a duller place without such moments, would it not?

Austria 2001: Ferrari mechanics form up in the pit lane, while 500 yards away Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello blast past the pit entry and onto another lap

    After Italy this year:
During the post-Italian Grand Prix press meeting with FIA race director Charlie Whiting, the Briton conceded that ‘fake’ pit stops such as the ones of Mercedes could be subject for further investigation. F1Technical.net’s Balázs Szabó attended the meeting which brought up a series of different topics.

    Sporting issues
Charlie Whiting met the journalists late on Sunday after the 69th Italian Grand Prix to answer the questions about the sport’s latest issues. When asked what sanction the governing body could implement to stop Mercedes imitating pit stops, he said that the FIA has already had a look into the matter. It is because that goes against the spirit of the sport and teams should only be in front of their garages in full preparation for a stop if they really expect one of their drivers to visit the pit. However, monitoring the real motivation for a team getting ready for a stop is tough because there are cases in which teams decide against the pit stop in the very last moment due to various factors such as sudden changes to the traffic conditions.

Rule should be black and white for everyone - car crosses pit entrance, crew can activate

If fans and journalists can see the stops are fake, then claiming FIA staff posted in the pits monitoring things so closely can’t tell when it’s fake or not means they are employing idiots. It’s easy, you go into the pit lane with equipment, driver stops or a ten second stop go is incurred and a MANDATORY pit stop must take place, it can’t be served after the race

Don’t want to be misinterpreted, don’t enter the pit lane. End of problem.

Same for those stood in the way of other teams pit boxes, do it on purpose or mistake, ten second penalty for impeding the other driver

    OK.

Having spent more of my time than I'd like reading through this thread AGAIN, I will state the following:

    KNOCK it the HELL OFF.

There's enough baiting/trolling going on here for me to toss a whole ration of you out. TROLLING is a TOU violation. I'm going to issue a general warning: I'm coming back to this thread at the end of the day, and if the trolling doesn't stop, right here and now, users will get bans that could be thread bans, or site bans. A site ban for any of you at this point will extend past the end of the season.

So, for once, SELF POLICE, dial it back, get it under control. ALL OF YOU.

And if you don't, you can't say you weren't warned.

Interesting read on the new fins on the floor concept seen on Ferrari and tested by Red Bull in Mexico - https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/139762/f1-new-fashion-for-floor-fins-explained

    By Giorgio Piola, Matt Somerfield

Formula 1 cars' floors are the latest area where teams have been exploring unique technical concepts.

Ferrari first raised some eyebrows at the United States Grand Prix when it fitted a series of fins to the floor's outside edge.

These fins, and the slots they enhance, sit in an area of the car that was not amended when the 2017 regulations were conceived. This has allowed teams to exploit some regulatory weakness.

These appendages are expected to drive and improve the airflow passing through the slots, increasing the vorticity already present.

This helps to 'seal' the edge of the floor from the turbulence created by the front tyres ahead, and improves the yield of the diffuser behind.

One other potential benefit unique to Ferrari has been the way the fins could help divert rubber debris from a new slot that appeared in front of the rear tyres - and had got blocked by tyre marbles during practice in Japan.

But the new floor has proved tricky to gauge by the team, as it tested it in both United States and Mexico practice but elected against racing it because it could not be sure of performance benefits.

Getting to the bottom of why what has looked promising in the windtunnel has not transferred across to track will be critical for Ferrari over the next few weeks.

Ferrari's idea has still been jumped on by rivals - as Red Bull copied the concept for its own tests in Mexico.

Far from refined, but available in record time, the vertical fences were flown in having been rapidly prototyped back at the Milton Keynes factory and were glued to the Red Bull's floor.

Having reportedly seen some interesting figures during the fences' first tests in CFD, the team was keen to capture some real world data and fitted the fins to Max Verstappen's RB14.

Unlike the Ferrari, which features three longitudinal floor slots, the Red Bull only has two, meaning that two pairs of fins were used to match the slot arrangement toward the front of the floor. A triple fin arrangement - the same as Ferrari - was favoured ahead of the rear tyre.

Red Bull only used the fins for a test in Friday practice and it remains to be seen whether either it or Ferrari will resurrect the concept in the remaining 2018 grands prix.

You might be right about that.

Thing is for me as much as I'd like to see Hamilton do just that, it would make for another two pretty boring years racewise. I'd much rather see Max take his first WDC.

Why post this? Only reason is to incite. Everyone is well aware of the results, 300+ posts into the thread. I've bent over backwards to tolerate BOTH sides of the discussion here, but a post that does no more or less than rub the results in the Ferrari F1 supports here is unnecessary at this point, especially given my prior warning.

With all due respect I don't consider that as trolling. In fact I share the opinion. Posting it here is not trolling as we are an open F1 forum and not a Ferrari only one. Has been like this since I was mod of this forum.

Your call of course, just giving you my 2 Swiss Franken.
