I was agreeing with you 'til you said... In my fifty plus years of watchin' all sorts of racing, I've not seen a lot of that. For those on the outside, yes, they believe those "truths". In practice, I have not seen it that often and when so, 'usually it was by luck. 'Fer instance: Stroll's qualifying at Monza or lucky strategy such as Danica winning Japan; Rossi winning Indy.
No, I have never say that. Rosberg was my favourite driver for a long time, since he was at Williams. I was glad when he won the title, on sheer tenacity, I think. He had to work very hard for it, having one of the most combative team mate. At Mercedes, he was almost as fast as Hamilton, but not so good in wheel-to-wheel situations. That was the chink in his armour. Also, I have never said that I was very keen on Hamilton's personality, but as a driver, he is the best we have at the moment. You can make what you want of that.
Why should I be proud he's a Brit? I'm not a xenophobe, someone's race or nationality doesn't determine how I respect them. You keep having a pop at me, bet you can't name my favourite driver, you seem to think it's all down to fanaticism. I support Ferrari, and want ferrari to win every race, but my favourite drivers don't always race for my favoured team (and most definitely doesn't have to be English)
Schumacher in his Benetton beating the Williams? Senna beating the 1991 Williams, Senna winning races in a broken mclaren, Schumacher winning stuck in gear? Lots and lots of occasions. Schumacher winning in Spain in 1996 with that crap bathtub on wheels barnard left the team as a joke ?
True, but we certainly know your LEAST favourite driver, that's for sure !!! You keep banging on and on about him, like if it was a rash.
Only one statistic counts, how many WDC a driver achieves. And Hamilton is not even the best at that on the current grid.
I don't think that's the issue here. What is acknowledged, however, he that he has collected the highest number of pole positions so far. He may, or may not, get more WDC, but that's not was is discussed now.
Sure and Vettel has the chance to become number 2, which is even less shabby considering he's younger Atm Ham is between #5 and 10, though, which reflects pretty accurately his "greatness" imo
Actually, I can't stand Palmer, Erickson, grosjean and various others at least as much as elton, it's just that they are of no consequence in f1 as their results mean nothing at all
Anyone that still thinks Ferrari has the best car this season needs to have their head checked. Lewis Hamilton continues to drive the most dominant F1 cars ever made...year after year. Came into F1 as a rookie and plopped down into a WDC winning car, has never had a bad car, and now has enjoyed the most dominant 4 year stretch of cars in history of the sport. Yeah he's a good driver (top 4 or so on current grid) but his records have been seriously propped up by his run from 2014 on in these ridiculous Mercedes machines. While pole record is a a big time achievement, take a moment to look at how many races non Mercedes cars have been on the pole in 4 years. The answer? 7. 7 times in FOUR YEARS a car has beaten Mercedes to a pole. Obviously stats will get padded. Anyone is going to look like Senna in a car with a special qualifying mode that no one else has that gains them a half a second. Also, one should note that MSC set his 68 (69 with Monaco '12) in a different era. Qualifying on race fuel loads, etc. Totally different format. Hes would have unquestionably had more poles if the rules were like they are today for qualifying. Also, check out that pole to win rate vs. Hamilton.
The last time this happened there was a war just around the corner ....... I'll go get my tin hat and white flag/rifle , depending on which side I'm fighting
Let´s sum it up: when Rosberg got pole it was the car, when Lewis got pole it was his achievement F1 was, is and always will be a team sport and has a lot to do with the car and how the car is prepared but for some reason Lewis is regarded as a seperate person from the car and the fact that the car was more dominant than any other F1 car over a 4 years period does not count Nico is desribed as Vanilla driver or runnaway and one day wonder, Jenson was a one day wonder lucking to sit in the Brown GP beating the guy referred to as a useless Schumacher No.2...and just because Lewis beat them without even dominating him he is called a GOAT. That does not make sense at all but others are named detractors when not agreing... And where were the Hamilton fanboys before he jumped into the Mercedes? Obviously he only became great when driving the dominant Mercedes because I can not remember his fanboys praising him that way in the McLaren years. Is it because HE became a better driver or simply because the CAR became better?
I'm no Ham fan but I think here's driving better this year without Rosberg and Lauda playing head games like last year. Rosberg was annoying and challenging. Bottas is a team player. Lauda earns his title "the rat". Louie seems to work better when the rat is not toying with brain and no one is challenging him in turn 1.
Spot on Pete. This is what they don't see, the duplicity of their arguments, so blind are they to just want to argue and gripe with ferrari tifosi on a ferrari forum. They can't cope with the fact that in this environment it will always be biased towards ferrari. If this was formula one dot com, or planet f1, or any other generic site, or Mercedes dot com, they could expect their bs to be lapped up by their peers, agreed with on a massive percentage and generally accepted, yet they fail to understand that a ferrari site will be hostile towards their opinions. They seem to think that if they were a Real Madrid supporter, they could go into the Barcelona end at a football stadium and have a conversation about how much better Real Madrid might be - uh no, they'd get stabbed to death. Similarly, they might go to Manchester United game, sit in the Man Utd end, and wax lyrical about how good Manchester City are, and how Utd are rubbish - same result, instant beating leading to a painful death. Maybe there's a psychological reason they feel they want to 'poke the bear', and an Internet forum is a great place for doing so in safety. Strange, I'll never understand their need to be oblique
Correct! and you can bet your bottom dollar that a lot of great F1 contributors have left these boards because of it ...it's really tiresome.
Tsk, tsk. Only 50 years. Smartarse. (On a serious note, sadly, it was ABC's Wide World of Sports coverage of that Monaco (not the crash) that really hooked me on F1) Au contraire....http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UNyjkeXoWOk/Ufp2KD-7OvI/AAAAAAAAGpw/A0ijPSsIOK8/s1600/P1010249.JPG
