I believe they're saying there's 'a chance'. Not quite sure exactly what that means - meteorologist's seem to be the sketchiest of all humans! Cheers, Ian
Started so well with a very good point about the tyre strategy, and then you ruin it by wishing a driver hit a wall..... Was there any need to say that, couldn't you have just been vague about it, rather than hitting a wall, and likely doing some damage to the poor chap? If he does crash out, the likelihood is it will be because Elton can't keep control of himself for more than 100 yards at a time, which is more than likely, but this time might well cost him his job, or at least enough penalty points to get himself banned for a race or three
Sounds like the teams are expecting rain at some point during the race, but these things are tough to anticipate accurately 24 hours before, we've seen lots of races where they suggest rain on qualy day, and on race day, the sun makes the track hit the 40's!
Aye, Sorry Mr Andrew sir! Man that's a tough one. If you want I'll source you the race so you can view it after! See you've been here since 2011, but welcome to this section. I think you'll do well here regarding your humour .
Re Ricciardo - I don't know if any of the non Brits dial in on C4 (I don't have Sky since my house move) where he was chatting with Coulthard and Webber. I could be wrong as usual but I think what he's saying and how he's saying it is with intent behind his smile; the idiotic 3 stop strategy last race where Horner, as usual, had to lie on behalf of his superiors to justify Max's first win at RB. Even James Allen's site alluded to this in his blog re "hints of favoritism". Best, Sammy
Could be wrong here myself now, but Ricciardo and Vettel where fighting for what was presumably the win, Whilst Verstappen was on the 2 stop (which in the simulations was slower), to cover Raikkonen who looked to be doing that. I don't think there really was a conspiracy. Ferrari always give Vettel the better strategy (star driver and all that), there is no logic in giving the faster strategy to Raikkonen, when he's likely to finish behind Vettel. Ferrari have such a small chance for the title, they have to give it all to Vettel. That's my reasoning anyhow.
My thing with Ric is that just because he's likable, doesn't mean he should be exempt from the whiner tags. He's complained quite a lot this season. Yet even during practice he was very quick to compliment himself and dismiss the new PU. He's often done the "I would've done this... I could've done that... If not for "x" " His 3 wins came by way of Merc issues...still wins but don't act like you slayed the field. I just think he gets a pass too often when others get assailed by people her for the smallest rumblings. I'm almost starting to think he's quite an arrogant driver, but hides it behind his smile. Is it all contrived? No I don't think so, but I think if look past the grin, he's a bit self ingratiating and not all that gracious. My take...not saying anyone has to agree. Either way, however, he drove like a champ and I'd like to see him have a clean and fully earned win. So far, Seb has been the only one to have done that in the new era. It'd be cool to have another.
I see your point, but I'm sticking to mine, giving him the benefit of the doubt etc. Regarding the ''I''...It's actually somewhat refreshing (in the right context, of course). What ALL of them do these days ''we made a mistake'', ''we should look at doing'' blah blah...all PR speak, and piss poor PR at that! I really, really hate it when a driver makes a mistake or couldn't get his car working (Vettel in Q3 for instance, unable to match his earlier time by 3 tenths), and then say ''we couldn't get the car working''. Sorry mate...but whether it's a small mistake, or unable to get the temps right this time round, just say ''I'' in this regard. And if it's something the team should do (i.e. a decent pitstop, or building an engine that doesn't **** itself before end of the race), is clearly a ''they''. It's one of the things that really annoys me. Maybe I'm alone in that regard. Obviously praise to the team for a job well done is welcome and encouraged.
One would have figured that would be the case ; but using the 20/20 vision of hindsight, all that Ferrari did was to follow RB's strategy, same as which was what led to Alonso/Petrov/Vettel a few years ago. And they repeated again. Just my 2 cents of course. Also having to watch C4, the commentary always seems to imply that if Kimi is ahead of Vettel, it is a blow to Ferrari's title hopes because Vettel is behind....go figure... Best, Sammy
an arrogant F1 driver? huh! That would be a first. They're all whiners. It's just a bit less obvious with some of them.
Why should they favour Verstappen ? Don't get too exited. Just like Verstappen's Barcelona win, a fantastic Monaco qualy doesn't suddenly make either one of them instant world champions, or better than the other. First of all, Verstappen said a couple of days after the Barcelona race, Ricciardo was on a 2 stop as well initially, but changed mid race by RB due to excessive tire wear. Secondly, remember Ricciardo's tire blow up at the end of the race. Which makes me wonder if Ricciardo's tire management during the race is on par, first and foremost. Not if either one of them is favoured.
Ive been saying that all along. Its always the usual suspects here that constantly label Seb and Lewis fir EVERYRHING while others get a pass. This "whiner" stuff here is just stupid. Id be pissed if they werent pissed.
I totally agree. That's why I like it when the drivers lose their ****. To me it's not whining...it shows that they actually care and are competitive...which is unlike a lot of pro sports... Like baseball, football, golf...etc. But it'd be cool to ease the 24/7 PR campaign.
Just managed to catch up on the thread, some really good posts. I get the feeling the frustration is starting to take a toll at Ferrari. Hope they can keep the faith and work through things. So much said already about the SF16-H and how good it really is. In the end if Vettel is saying it is a good car capable of the front row I'll choose to believe him. Of course I'm sure there'll be a forum member or two who will know better than Seb and who will set the record straight on why that's wrong. A race is a long time in GP parlance - just ask Max. Dan is the man. An inspired lap in Q2 to put him on the SS's. His Q3 lap was as close to perfect as I've seen in a long time, millimeter perfect. So lets see Lewis and Nico focus on each other and Seb slip through. A great race between the old team-mates could make this a great race.
Seb gets a pass these days around here. Apparently everyone forgets about how he was during his winning seasons. All athletes across the board are arrogant to some degree. All of them.
Already light rain showers on the immaculate decks of those super yachts at 5am.. and more forecast for the afternoon. i have a feeling this one will be won during the pit stop (s). St Devote will be interesting, expect a few cars being 'forced' to take to the pit lane exit at the start! https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=monaco%20weatheri
Wehhhhhhhhhh, wehhhhhhhhhh, wehhhhhhhhh. Then there was that obnoxious finger...have to say though, since joining the Scuderia he's got a better sense of humor.
