Wow, wow, wow so everyone is criticising Verstappen for lapping a backmarker, I always thought it was the responsibility of the driver getting lapped (in all forms of motorracing) to get out of the way. Surely Ocon should get a blue flag and take the slow line to allow the leader to get past rather than try to race and punt him off the track. One would ask how every Verstappen hater would feel if it was Hamilton that was taken out, for a start the British media would start a new war with France.

 

Absolutely right. Ocon has the responsibility to recognise that if he wants to unlap himself then that’s fine, but he has to do it safely. He is not in the race with Max, he was out of it totally. He also should have known max would not make it easy to pass regardless of any difference in tyres or speed at the time, he was leading the race building a gap to Elton, that was his only priority. The crash lays entirely at the feet of Ocon being out of order. Unfortunately, Max’s reaction; after the race was a bit stupid, but again, why blow it up out of proportion... makes me laugh the people calling for the police to arrest him and charge him with assault! Max is paid millions to race and win, he isn’t paid to be taken out. While yes, I’ve been as annoyed as anyone when he crashes into Ferrari’s and ruins our races, it is ironic to see him get a taste of the medicine, but it still doesn’t exonerate Ocon, and to have a bit of handbags after the race - crikey, big deal. Bet his dad asked him why Ocon was still standing afterwards!

I remember in NYC one time I was with a girlfriend shopping, and somehow, don’t know how!, she caught me having a rather longer look at a tasty bird walking past. They wanted to nick me for something really bad (potentially because she was very very pretty, and in the most awesome minidress and heels you ever saw), and much like Ocon and Maxine, there was really nothing in it. A tennis bracelet and pair of shoes later, she was up for finding the girl and having a three Way!

VER wasn't lapping him, OCO was trying to unlap himself. Therefore no blue flags.

Whatever the merits or otherwise of OCO's maneuver, VER turned in on him and made the accident inevitable.

 

Look, I respect your views on many F1 subjects, but this is being blown completely out of proportion. Ocon should not have taken out max. He was punished by the stewards. Max should not have gently shoved Ocon. He was punished by the stewards. It’s over. Life goes on.

Meanwhile, the real enemy, Arrivabene, still has a job and Vettel has lost his mind.

So his team, Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton are the only ones backing Ocon... fortunately those are the most objective parties in all that

It is hilarious: this forum did rant on Seb trying to overtaking Max a few races ago for position as he should have known that it is Max he is fighting with but it seems to be OK for some that Ocon is fighting Max for unlapping himself...now that makes sense....

When it comes to giving this forum subjects to talk about when the championships are already decided, there's no stoppin' Verstapen.

 

I think there are 2 sides to this story, i personaly don't like max but like Ocon very much, they are both extremely talented and i believe that together with Charles, the 3 are f.1 future champions.
first point, Ocon had every right to unlap himself since he was faster, i think he did it cleanly, Max simply chose to ignore he was on the inside and did not give him any space, if this was a straight fight max would have been 100% to blame, Ocon gained position, was on the inside line and Max simply closed the door on him, it's as simple as that. So yes, i believe it was Max fault.
On the other hand, Max was leading, Ocon was a backmarker at the time and should have been extra carefull with the manouver....but i still think it was max fault.

j/k- watched it on DVR last night with my daughter. Went to bed disappointed (yes, I'll leave that wide open for everyone to comment on).

I haven't poked around for post-race comments re:tyre strategy and Vettel's lack of pace. Vettel needed a start a la Kimi at COTA and/or good pace on better tyres, but got neither.

Briefly read about some #5 car isssues perhaps?

 

Brings back memories of the gold old days: Piquet's boxing fight with Salazar in the Ostkurve of Hockenheim and MS calling DC a murderer in the pits at Spa.

Edit: Fixed Piquet incident. Irvine was another one with Senna.

 

Closing the door... isn't that his M.O? I mean look how contenders almost let him go by because they know he'd just as soon smash into them then race with respect in mind. Some may find that level of arrogance exciting... or cool. I don't.. You can race hard, but fair and show class and respect. Max shows neither.

You have it backwards

Ocon was overtaking Verstappen, not the other way around.

Ocon was trying to unlap himself after just getting fresh tires. Max could have let him go by easily and then won the race. Instead, he defended the corner KNOWING Ocon was there and they touched.

If he didn't know Ocon was there, I would say he had a point to be upset. But its clear Max knew Ocon was right along side him as they both went into the corner. Max came over and there was no where for Ocon to go.

Dumb decision by Max and it costed him the race. The race leader is not "entitled" to stay there just because they are in the lead.

 

I abandoned the race after a few laps.....so can someone tell me what was the lap the Ocon/Max incident took place please? thanks.
