I wonder if Christian Horner's wife will have a reunion with her bandmates at the British GP?
BTW who was the woman who conducted the podium interviews? Clearly English is not her first or second language.
That was horrible. I am going to guess that it was a favor - girlfriend, daughter, friend of politician, etc. She had no business doing an interview in English.
Simple, he wasn't in a red car. Now he's in a red car and the boo's stopped. Plus the "index finger" thing didn't help.
I hear you. I always liked him, red car or not and I thought the index finger thing was funny. Then again I also liked Alonso's victory dances/mimes I suppose I prefer eccentric drivers to robots
Yes, they are considered as cars for old people, here in France too. I seem to recall that the management of MB viewed Formula One as an activity that could help their strategy towards modifying that image. Rgds
MB and Cadillac suffer from the same perception problem. My husband worked for MB for about eight years and I still wouldn't drive their cars. I was really happy when he moved to BMW since that's what I'd been driving. I'm a big curb appeal person, and I'm not the only one. I picked my 360 because I am in love with the way it looks. Performance is something I require but it's secondary to looks. My husband, OTOH, is a performance man all the way, which is why he drives a GT-R.
You hit the nail squarely on its head, here !!! Forget about the success, the wins, the championships, Mercedes' multi-millions investment in F1 is a marketing disaster. The Mercedes players aren't happy, refuse to enjoy their success together and make swipes at each other at the first opportunity. Wolff mentioned it last year when he said that no collective happiness was shown after a win. It was just empty PR exercise. Even when they finish 1-2, which is any team's dream, their body language on the podium show deep resentment of each other. That must leave a bitter taste for Mercedes and the sponsors who banroll that show. As for Hamilton (not my favourite, you gathered that!), he seems to think that he is bigger than his team now ...
Mercedes, "the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie". I say that as a 69yo Mercedes owner. I find the brand very classy myself, not "show-off", reliable, etc... I cannot see any other brand that has such a solid image and also a wide range of vehicles, cars, commercials, trucks, etc... of very good quality, I may add. A Mercedes sets you apart ...
Truth is that it would be a bit different in Germany, where MBs are often seen as the car for the taxi driver: most german taxis are MB. As for myself, well I really don't have an opinion: I don't care about modern cars. But MB did have some nice sexy cars in the past, like the 190SL, 300SL, the "pagoda", etc... But to go back to the topic: yes, the rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg isn't good for their image, but they should have known: when Lewis was with Jenson Button at McLaren before his move to MB, he has already shown that he didn't handle pressure very well. Rgds
Something was telling me for quite sometime that you didn't exactly had the same look that Lewis Hamilton... Rgds
I like merc cars..i have one...and i wouldhave more if i had the money for it..love the new c class coupe..of course with 2 kids,a station or an suv serves me beter..
I like them too and their F1 wins made them even more interesting to the point that my next car will likely be a MB. Coupe if I can swing it
Funny you mention this, same in Colorado as well, I rarely see anyone under the age of 60 driving them except for the SUVs.
Well, here in UK, young executives, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, professionals, people involved in media, fashion, editing, are the Mercedes customer base, regarding of age. I have no doubt that BMW on the whole appeals to the more sporty and younger audience.
I don't think Hamilton will "sell" many Mercedes. I think he is more interested in promoting his image now that he has decided to go into "music" when he retires from the track. Watch this space ...
Why? I always liked MBs, even when I was young. Of course I prefer a Ferrari but as a daily driver a MB is nice. And as I said I always applaud a manufacturer who takes on the F1 challenge. ...and they certainly did that way better than I ever expected them to... Back to my delicious plate of crow....
Audi and BMW fill that niche here, it is intereting how perception is different in each location. Maybe the marketing is helping in other areas of the USA, I can only speak of Colorado with any confidence.
In Portugal, before Merc was also regarded as an oldsman brand...not anymoreand still as more prestige than both Bmw and Audi. And let'sface, their latest releases are very atractive, if you compare let's say a c-class with a 3 series or an a4,the Merc trashes the other 2 in terms of image, the interior is steps ahead.
